How to use Minitab for Chi Squared tests.

Suppose that the Observed data is

Vote for Hillary Not vote for Hillary

Men 16 85
Women 60 140

You can use Minitab to get the test statistic and the p-value.

1. Enter the data (not the totals) into Minitab:

2. In Minitab select
Stat BasicStatistics  Tables  Chi Square Test…
3. Select the columns that hold the table and click OK

4. In the output window you will see:

Chi-Square Test: C1, C2

Expected counts are printed below observed counts

Chi-Square contributions are printed below expected counts

C1 C2 Total
1 16 85 101
25.50 75.50
3.540 1.196

2 60 140 200
50.50 149.50
1.788 0.604

Total 76 225 301

Chi-Sq = 7.128, DF = 1, P-Value = 0.008

The two tables Observed and Expected are superimposed on one

another.

E
is given as 7.128

 The degrees of freedom is 1

 The p-value is .008--- which is very small.
