Find the story "Genji Monogatari" and answer the following questions.

Who is Genji?

-is the second son of a Japanese emperor, but he is relegated to civilian life for political

reasons and lives as an imperial officer. The first part of the story concentrates on his

romantic life, and in the second, his and others' internal agony is depicted.

Why Genji Monogatri is considered as court romance?

-He seems destined to repeat the same actions over and over. This consists of pursuing

various women. He never abandons anyone after establishing a relationship, so he


ends up with a large group of never quite satisfactory relationships. These prevent him
from pursuing his own salvation, as he can never bring himself to abandon the world
and enter a monastery.

Give at least three memorable lines from the the Genji Monogatari.
