Assignment 1. Self-Assessment
1. What is education for you?
Education for me is about learning and giving skills and knowledge. It is a give-and-take process
between a teacher and his students to further sustain learnings. Education is a necessity. Therefore,
parents shall grant their children education to prepare and qualify them to work in the economy as well
as to integrate their children into society and teach them values and morals.
2. What do you think should schools develop among learners?
Most of the schools tend to have a goal of producing quality education. But what is quality
education for them? Is it having a high rate of board passers? Having a high rate of top-notchers? We
forget that schools should most importantly develop values and morals that are crucial to the betterment
of society. With this being said, schools should also focus on helping their students find their passion.
There are different types of geniuses that we forget to look upon our students; some of them are not
academic geniuses but creative geniuses. Most of the schools neglect that.
3. How should curriculum be taught to learners?
Leaners should first know their passion before choosing a curriculum. A curriculum should be
based on every student’s general skills, knowledge and needs, not what the school want its students to
learn. The curriculum should be of benefit to the student’s chosen degree and passion and must be
exciting too.
4. What roles should teachers and learners have in teaching-learning process?
In the teaching-learning process, the teacher is the one who facilitate the learning processes. In a
simple thought, the teacher is mostly the giver of learning. Furthermore, the teacher manages
educational work and the valuer of the skills and knowledge of students. On the other hand, the student
is the active participant of the teaching-learning processes, he/she is the receiver. Although the students
can also be a giver of knowledge and skills, it is the teacher who most of the time facilitate
communication.
5. How should learning be assessed?
Learning should be assessed both through direct and indirect measures. Giving quizzes,
assignments, and tests are some of the direct measures. In this measure, the teacher can directly assess
the learning ability of the students through the results of the quizzes, assignments and tests. Oral-
recitation and other related activities that include performance should be maximized because students
can be slow in studying but passionate in showing performance and recitation. Learners should also be
assessed through indirect measures with the use of student surveys about instructions. In the end, the
school should make sure that the assessment is sustainable and reasonable in terms of time and
resources, both for the students and instructors.
