Electric Power-

Power is defined as Rate of doing work.

OR

Rate of energy consumed or dissipated.

Electric power is defined as the rate of electrical energy consumed or dissipated.

P=W/t=E/t , (as H=E=W=VIt)

P=VIt/t

P=VI (also P=I2R and P= V2/R) from (B) and (C)

Thus, Electric power is defined as the product of potential difference and current.

→S.I. unit of power is Watt.

1 Watt=1 Volt × 1 Ampere.

Defination of 1Watt- 1 Watt is the power when a potential difference of 1 volt allows a current
of 1 ampere to flow through a circuit.

Higher Units Of Power-

→1 KW=1000 W=103 W

→1 MW=106 W

→1 GW=109 W

→1 hp= 746 w

Electrical Energy-

It is defined as the product of electrical power and time.

P=E/t

E=P×t

→S.I. unit of electrical energy is 1J=1W × 1S.

The higher unit of electrical energy is KWh. This KWh is also called the commercial unit of
energy and is equal to 1unit.

1KWh=1 Unit.

1KWh=1 KW × 1h

1KWh=1000 W × 3600 s.

1KWh=3600000 Ws.

1KWh=3.6 × 106J.
