Throwaway society is a contemporary terminology that refers to the modern society’s inclination to

discard goods after a short life cycle. This phenomenon has been a subject of heated controversy among
policy makers and social scientists. Therefore, this essay aims to pinpoint the underlying causes and
analyze the effects of a throwaway society.

FirstlyTo begin with, two major roots of a throwaway society are the significant boost in manufacturing
productivity and the lack of reparation services. As a result of the industrial revolution, mass production
and automatic assembly lines are commonly utilized by manufacturers, which dramatically increase the
yield of household devices. This surge in supply leads to a reduction in costs and a rise in the number of
goods available on the market, allowing customers to easily dispose of old objects and replace them
with affordablecheap new ones. This tendency, in combination with a general lack of maintenance
services, further encourages customers to replace rather thaninstead of repair. Indeed, when
maintenance is scarce, the price will be astronomical; and with the low costs of goods on the market,
most people will prefer purchasing a new device.

Therefore, environmental contamination and resource waste are the two most direct consequences of
this tendency. Since most household objects are made from plastic, when they are released into nature,
the chemicals discharged due to the non-biodegradability of this material will inflict untold destruction
upon animals’ habitats and land quality. This will endanger the livelihood existence of countless species,
upset the delicate ecological balance, and trigger land pollution. Even if the domestic and industrial
refuse is treated in an eco-friendly way before disposal, given the fast-depleting reserve of fossil fuels
and the sky-rocketing demand for raw materials, the throwaway society is a waste of natural resources.
Besides, Becausase the Earth contains a finite numberamount of resources, discarding goods instead of
recycling is would be substantiallyessentially exhausting those resources. In the context of the
forthcoming industrial revolution, when the need for raw material is elevated, this phenomenon may
prove economically detrimental.

In conclusion, the upsurge in productivity and the shortage of reparation services have given rise to a
throwaway society. This has led to heated environmental issues and the waste of natural resources.
