There are five questions in this assignment. Answer all the questions.

Question 1: (i) Find the complex conjugate of (3+5i)/(1+2i)

Here
z = (3 + 5i)(1 + 2i)
= 3 + 6i + 5i + 10(i x i)
= 3 + 11i – 10
= - 7 + 11i
Then Complex conjugate of – 7 + 11i
= - 7 – 11i

(ii) Differentiate (sin x)x w.r.t. x.

Discovery of this rule is credited to Gottfried Leibniz (however, Child (2008) argues that
it is due to Isaac Barrow), who demonstrated it usingdifferentials. Here is Leibniz's
argument: Let u(x) and v(x) be two differentiable functions of x. Then the differential
of uv is

Since the term du·dv is "negligible" (compared to du and dv), Leibniz concluded that

and this is indeed the differential form of the product rule. If we divide through by the
differential dx, we obtain

which can also be written in "prime notation" as

Hence the solution is

Question 2: (i) Find the equation of the line joining the points
(─, 6, ─ 3) and (7, ─ 6, 3).

Here
A(-6, -3, -1) and B (7, -6, 3) be the points
Then

(ii) Find the equation of the sphere, which contains the circle
x2 + y2 + z2 = 18 , 3x + 3y + 3z = 11 and
passes through the origin.
(5 Marks)
x2 + y2 + z2 =18
3x + 3y + 3z = 11
Passes through the orgin that is (0,0,0)

The equation of sphere

x2 + y2 + z2 =18

The equation of plane

3x + 3y + 3z = 11

Then the equation of circle would be

x2 + y2 + z2 – 18 + k (3x + 3y + 3z -11) =0 ---------(1)

since (1) passes through the (0,0,0)

0 + 0 + 0 – 18 + k( 0 + 0 +0 -11) =0
-18 – k11 = 0

−k =

−18
k=

Putting the value of k in (1) we get

x2 + y2 + z2 – 18 + k (3x + 3y + 3z -11) = 0
11x2 + 11y2 + 11z2 –54x – 54y - 54z + 198 =0
This is the required result

(ii) Compute the area bounded by y2 = 9x and x2 = 9y

For finding the points of intersection of the given curve, we solve the given equation
simultaneity.
x2 = 9y = x2/9
2 2
substituting y = x /9 in y = 9x

(x2/9)2 = 9x
(x2/81) = 9x
(x4/81) – 9x = 0

x(x3 – 729) = 0
x =0 or x = 9
y =0 or y = 9

hence point of intersection are (0,0) (9,9)
