Solutions should be submitted till 10:30 on May 4nd 2021, Tuesday. You have 90 minutes. Prepare a PDF file
that consists of your answers. You can use MATLAB/Simulink and any other numeric/symbolic solver tools
while answering. However, you have to add your code and plots into your PDF. You can get 20 points from
these 4 questions.

Question 1 (5 points): Find the signal whose Fourier transform is given below.

Question 2 (5 points): Consider is applied to a

product modulator with the carrier , where
, the spectrum of is given and
kHz. The generated is a DSB-SC signal.
is then applied to a coherent detector. Assume that the
synchronization between the transmitter and receiver is
ideal. Find the spectrum of the detector output for
a) kHz and
b) kHz.
c) What is the lowest for which each component of the
modulated signal is uniquely determined by ? Explain your decision.

Question 3 (5 points): is applied to a frequency modulator with a

frequency sensitivity , and a carrier signal . Find the spectrum of the
resulting signal, assuming the maximum frequency deviation radians.

Question 4 (5 points): A
carrier wave of frequency 100
MHz is frequency-modulated
by a sinusoidal wave of
amplitude 20 V and
frequency 100 kHz. The
frequency sensitivity of the
modulator is 25 kHz/volt.
a) Determine the approximate
bandwidth of the FM signal,
using Carson’s rule.
b) Determine the bandwidth by transmitting only those side frequencies whose amplitudes exceed 1
percent of the unmodulated carrier amplitude. Use the the given table.
