Solutions should be submitted till 11:15 on Juna 26th 2021, Saturday. You have 120 minutes. Prepare a PDF
file that consists of your answers. If you need, you can use MATLAB/Simulink and any other
numeric/symbolic solver tools while answering in order to check your solution. However, you have to write
your answers by hand. Each question is 10 points and you will get 10 bonus points if you solve at least one
of the four questions.

Question 1 (10 points): Compare the amplitude modulation and frequency modulation. What are
the advantages and disadvantages of both systems?

Question 2 (10 points): Explain the PSK modulation technique and compare the BSK, DE-BSK,
QPSK, DE-QPSK.

Question 3 (10 points): Explain the relation between BER and E/N 0, where E is the energy per bit,
N0 is the noise spectral density, BER is the bit error rate. What is the reason for usign channel
coding?

Question 4 (10 points): Draw the whole block diagram of a digital satellite communication system
which uses QPSK modulation technique. In this system the satellite is a transparent relay, linking a
ground transmitter to a ground receiver.
