Stimulated Emission Even atom and molecule has its own discrete energy value, which is known as its “energy level". The condition of lowest energy of an atom or molecule is called its “normal state”, and at this state the number of atoms of molecules shall be referred to here as Ni, and the energy level as Et. ‘The condition of high energy is called the “excited state”, and at this state the number of atoms or molecules shall be referred to as Na, and the energy level as E2. Atoms or molecules at energy level E2 are unstable, and after a certain amount of time they emit light at a frequency equivalent to the Bohr frequency Vo, and the atoms of molecules move to the low level E1. When this transition probability is taken as A (Binstein’s coefficient of spontaneous emission), the number of atoms or molecules which change from Ez to E1 every second is ‘AN2, Light emitted in this way, without being acted upon by external light, is called “spontaneously emitted light”. Energy level &2 Hunber of atons H2 (Exelted state) s B2 - BL Eaission ratio: AW Energy level EL WL T= 10-7 - 10" (loreal state) Light generated by the process of spontaneous emission stimulates the transition of the atoms ‘or molecules at the excited state Eo, which then move to Ei. As.as a result, light at the same frequency Vo as incident light is emitted, Carbon Dioxide ee Gas Lasers ‘CO: Lasers utilize transitions between molecular vibration levels, and the most common of this type is infrared laser with an oscillation wavelength of 10.6 jm, ‘The structure of the carbon dioxide molecule is such that a central carbon atom is flanked by one oxygen atom. arranged in symmetry along the molecular axis on each side. ‘The COz molecule can vibrate in any one of the three ways shown below. (1) Symmetrical expansion and contraction vibration mode Quantum number vi (2) Flexion vibration mode ‘Quantum number v2 (3) Non-symmetrical expansion and contraction vibration mode Quantum number vs > C02 laser do not use carbon dioxide alone as the laser gas, but a mixture of COz, nitrogen (N2), and helium (He) gases. The energy level of CO2 molecule vibration can be expressed as (v1, v2, v3), a combination of the quantum numbers for the normal vibration modes of these gases, CO: lasers generally use a low-pressure mixture of nitrogen and helium gases, which are excited through electrical discharge to bring about laser action. Principles of Laser Machining ‘The laser beam from the emitter is focused narrowly by a lens. This concentrates the energy of the laser light onto a small area, increasing its energy density. ‘When this light with its high energy density is beamed onto some material, the point where the light contacts the material heats up suddenly, melts, and vaporizes, This melted and vaporized material is blown away by the assist gas (mainly Oz), creating a hole. In cutting, this process is carried out continuously. Laser light Us jo Y Y) oo7 1-1-3. Training for Preventive Maintenance Personnel Preventive maintenance should be conducted by persons who have received training from the manufacturer. 2 5) 8) 7 HIGH VOLTAGE ‘The laser emitter as well as the power source and control device use voltages of 3~4 KV DC and 200V AC. The doors and covers of the main unit as well as the power source and control device are equipped with interlock safety switches, which cut off high voltages when opened. Even after the power source has been cut off, however, high voltage areas inside the device should not be touched until they have been completely grounded. VENTILATION ‘The CO> laser emitter uses helium, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide gases for laser emission. Fixed amounts of these gases are constantly supplied to ensure stable laser emission, and exhausted into the atmosphere by a vacuum pump. ‘Some of the gases exhausted by the laser are poisonous. ‘The area of use must be adequately ventilated, with ventilation of at least 250 liters/min provided in rooms with high air density. SAFETY CHECKS ‘Always check the safety of the surrounding area before moving the machining table. Be sure to push [EMG-STOP] button of the operation panel of the machine first if itis not necessary to enter the area of table movement. 1.04 Turret layout Range Size(g) [| Qty | Punch holder Die holder Turret station - A__| 100-127 [7 A ‘AB AB B_ | 128-250 | 7 B _ Cc | 2s1~ 380 | 2 c c c D_ | 381~ sto | 2 D D D 1-3-2. Press Drive ‘The press drive uses the servo motor. Servo motor rotation is converted into rotation of the crank shaft via the gear box, and causes vertical movement of ram, Ram operating conditions such as its positions and speed are determined by the command values sent from PMC (Programmable Machine Controller). The set values can be freely changed within the specified range according to the punching conditions. For the method of changing the values, refer to Section 4 "Custom Screen Operation”. ‘Servo motor Coupling Crank shaft 2-4, Table es} ‘The table consiits of the following elements and the main function is to move and position ~ the sheet metal being punched in 2 directions: Front-Back (Y-axis) movement of the carriage and, Left-Right (X-axis) movement of the cross-slide on the table base, Center Table Table Base 2.04 Pneumatics ues Air sen This machine is provided with a filter-regulator-lubricator (FR.L) kit for smooth functioning. ‘The compressed air supply must be connected to the FRL kit inside the maintenance cabinet of rear of the machine, The air pressure must be set to 5.0 kg/em? by the regulator adjustinent. The compressed air operates various mechanisms as shown in the pneumatic circuit diagram shown on next age. Pressure switch Hose joint Filter Regulator Oiller ‘This machine requires air supply, with pressure more than 5.0 kg/cm? and volume 0.2 m/min, 8) C] Oo) Index pin For each of the upper and lower turret there is an index pin which is directly fitted to the end of a cylinder rod. Operated by solenoid valve control, the index pin enters and gets located into the bush bores on the circumferential outer surface of each turret to accurately position the turret at each commanded punching station. Work holders ‘The work holders are the mechanisms to hold the sheet metal to be punched. Maximum sheet thickness that can be held is 9 mm. The work holders are operated manually by pressing the foot switch provided for such a purpose, Work holders open and close by successive pressing of the foot switch and operate through solenoid valve control in the maintenance cabinet located under the table base on right side. If there is an accidental power failure during operation of machine, or for any such reason, the work holder operation controls are so designed as to always keep them in closed condition (Sheet hold condition), as a safety feature, Work holders. ‘The work holders can be set anywhere along the cross-slide rail. The positions of the work holders along the X-axis co-ordinate are automatically sensed and registered in CNC memory. When any work holder position is changed (to suit different sheet to be punched), the earlier position which has been already memorized in the CNC has to be re-registered with the new position. This is achieved as follows: As soon as the work holder clamping lever is even slightly released to enable movement of the work holder on the guide, the pressure switch is activated to off position. This signal is then transmitted to CNC and control executes the cycle for rechecking and memorizing the new position of work holder automatically before the start of next operation cycle. ‘Sheet repositioner It is necessary to hold down the sheet firmly while the work holders are opened and repositioned. Work holders are closed again automatically. The hold-down of the sheet is done by two reposition cylinder and pad mechanisms mounted on the front face of the press frame. The cylinders are actuated by solenoid valve control, 2-6. Laser Beam Transmission ‘The laser beam taken from the laser generator output mirror is polarized circularly by the polarization mirror. Then, the beam is bent horizontally by the bend mirror and vertically by the bend mirror. Finally, the beam is focused by the cutting lens. Laser generator Polarization mirror Bend mirror Cutting fens 210 2-8. Work Chute ‘The laser-cut finished workpiece sheet is dropped through a work chute mechanism under the laser cutting head and discharged towards the left side of the machine. The chute mechanism works on MS7/M56 program command. The chute movement aided by a cam, isa simultaneous two axis movement. As the chute movement is effected, the work slides out. After 1 second, the chute solenoid valve is switched off and the chute table rises back to the original normal position. Punch center Workpiece, slag ‘Work conveyor starts operation by MS7/M56 command, and stops after elapse of the time set at the variable timer. 242 10. Exhaust Filter Unit fea see ‘The hot slug dropping from the laser generates a considerable amount of fumes which must be filtered and prevented from discharging into open atmosphere. For this purpose, an exhaust filtration unit type PiA-15M (Amano make) is supplied. ‘Main specifications are: Type PiA5M Air capacity 14 meimin Filter area 45 m? @ nos) Cartridge type “Weight offittrationunit_ | S0kg SCS ‘The dust falling in the chute table duct are guided to fall into the slug cart bucket at the bottom of the exhaust filtration unit. It is essential to remove the dust collected in the bucket, on a regular periodic maintenance schedule. As the pressure builds up, the pressure switch tums ON. From this point the pump runs for another 15 seconds and switches OFF. The pump is switched ON again after an interval of 300 ram strokes (set by PC parametet) and the same cycle repeats again until machine power is switched OFF. Every time the pump switches ON, the software checks for the pressure build-up signal from Pressure switch and if this signal does not come up within 30 seconds from pump switching ON, an alarm “1028 A02.2 LUBE ALARM" is output and pump is stopped.
