A GUIDE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF STRATEGIC PLANS, PRESENTATION, AND

EVALUATION
for the Course
CBME 101 (STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT)

OBJECTIVES

At the end of the sessions, students can:

1) critically evaluate the presented comparative analysis of their peers; and
2) put into writing during the final examination the realization that although the principles
of public finance are similar in different countries, the situations and the implementation
vary from country to country.

INTRODUCTION
Giving a presentation is an inevitable part of being in business, and it is not just the domain of
extroverts, salespeople and management. Staff in all areas of the business need presentation
skills to get their point across articulately and visually. Technology can be a best friend when
one is needed to give a presentation internally or to clients. From product presentations to board
room reports to motivational speeches, presentations are required as they go that step further to
persuade, inform, motivate or inspire others. This event will expose students to the rudiments of
the presentation to prepare them in the outside business world.

THE GROUP

Students will be organized in a group of four (4) members, more or less, on the very first day of
classes in order to know and familiarize themselves with each other. Group members will
choose, among themselves, a group leader, a secretary and a treasurer. Immediately on the very
first day, they are to convene and decide on the regular schedule of their meeting and the
company that they are supposed to study to start developing their paper.

Group Meetings

Regular meetings shall be decided by the group members as presided by the group leader. The
schedule of weekly regular meetings shall be made known to the teacher for proper monitoring.
All meetings will be duly recorded by the secretary in the attendance form provided, attested by
himself/herself and confirmed by the leader. In the event that the secretary is absent, the treasurer
will act as the secretary. If both are absent, the leader will act on behalf of the absentees. The
duly accomplished attendance form shall be submitted every after the said meeting. Failure to
submit will mean zero (0) points for the said group on that specific meeting schedule.

1
Group Performance Evaluation

Each member of the group must be a team worker. Each member must religiously perform and
act on his/her responsibilities for the betterment of the project and the entire group. The
performance of each member of the group will be evaluated using a peer evaluation form and
submitted by the group secretary to the teacher one (1) day before the midterm and final
examinations.

No extension will be given in the submission of the duly accomplished evaluation form. Failure
to submit will mean a ten-point deduction from the secretary or whoever is to submit the duly
accomplished peer evaluation form. In the event that the performance of group members was not
determined on the said schedule, the leader is liable for the delay and therefore, only he/she will
be given the deduction.

In the event that differences shall occur among the members of the group, and the
accomplishment of the paper shall be in jeopardy, the entire group will be given zero (0) points
for the said requirement.

THE MANUSCRIPT

The manuscript contains the strategic developed by the students for the benefit of the chosen
company. Students shall choose a company of their own preference as subject of their analysis.
The general/overall outline of the paper can be seen in the following pages (cover page,
dedication, acknowledgment, table of contents, contents, references, appendices). The
development of the manuscript is quite challenging therefore, students or each member of the
group must be cooperative and enthusiastic in accomplishing such challenge.

As there are many ways to make a strategic plan, the content of the manuscript must strictly
follow the following outline for uniformity and convenience. A sample comparative analysis can
make everything simple and understandable which will be discussed in the future.

Content Outline

 Executive Summary
 Company Description
 Mission Statement
 Vision Statement
 Goals
 Industry Analysis
 Marketing Plan
 Capacity
 Operations Plan
 Financial Projections
 Evaluation Methods
 Signature Page

2
Margins when there are no page headers

Top, right side, bottom – one (1) inch

Left side – one (1) and one half (1/2) or 1.5 inches to spare ½ of an inch for binding

Spacing

To facilitate the good conduct in reading, the entire manuscript shall be presented in 2 spaces
within paragraphs and between paragraphs; and three (3) spaces for the transition to the next
sub-header. (See line and paragraph spacing in your computer.)

Pagination

Page numbers shall be entered and will appear at the bottom of the page. Page numbers on the
cover page and chapter pages will not appear but counted in the pagination

Presentation

The presentation of the strategic plan shall begin on the fourteenth (14th) week and shall end on
the sixteenth (16th) week of the semester. The group must prepare four (4) hard copies of the
paper: one (1) for the teacher and three (3) for the evaluators or panel of examiners that is, one
(1) for each member. These hard copies must be given to the teacher and the evaluators three (3)
days before the group’s scheduled presentation.

Remember that the paper has been evaluated before the presentation which means that it has
already been rated by the evaluators before coming in the presentation. The presentation
therefore, is meant to assess the level of knowledge of each member of the group with regard to
the manuscript. So, each member of the group must be ready upon entering the venue of the
presentation to answer queries of the evaluators thus, rated individually.

The evaluators shall check the contents or the substance of the paper only and shall not deal with
the other concerns like technicalities so as not to eat a lot of time in the question and answer
portion. Concerns, other than the substance, shall be written in the manuscript and not to be
taken or brought out in the question and answer portion.

PROFESSIONAL LOOK

During the presentation, each member of the group must present himself/herself professionally.
That is, wearing attire appropriate for the academic event. Remember that the “business world is
a traditional world and not a fashion world” therefore excessive dressing is unacceptable. In the
event that a group member is found to be in an excessive attire, that student shall not be allowed
to attend the presentation and therefore will be marked “absent”. This means that the student will
gain zero (0) points on the presentation.
