undertaking the first Annual National Research Conference colorfully

DMU: - Debre Markos University Social Science and Humanities College is undertaking the
first Annual National Research Conference under the theme “Innovation for Personal Virtue,
Social Transformation and Nation Building” colorfully in Queen Sheba from 17-18 April 2021
in the presence of honorable guests, higher government officials, scholars, researchers and
distinguished invited participants.

Guest of honor, Professor Masreha Fetene, indicated that Social Science and Humanities College
has taken the right path that shows the coming of age and a step towards development in its
research theme. The college can do a lot since the University is established in the area where
pioneer writers and authors and gifted individuals were available.

DMU Social Science and Humanities College Dean Doctor Amare Sewunet, warmly welcomes
honorary guests, scholars and participants of the conference says that the conference becomes
remarkable since it is being undertaken in the time of number of political disputes and conflicts
in addition to the global pandemic Corona COVID 19. The researches to be presented are
expected to be timely and related to human beings in one or the other way as the theme of the
conference is Innovation for Personal Virtue, Social Transformation and Nation Building, Amare
added.

Though a human being is a speaker creature, there are people who opposes this idea by the
saying ignorance is a good revenge. However, scholars shall communicate ideas in order to come
up with possible solutions to the existing problems happening here and there, Dr. Amare
underlined.

Moreover, scholars shall conduct and bring innovate ideas that would help to develop personal
virtue, make social transformation and nation building, Amare recommended. The college is
aged as compared to others since its establishment and number of staff member are working in it
in training trainees in the regular and extension programs on undergraduate and post graduate
programs, Amare announced. The research conference will be a plat form to come up with
innovative ideas that will help build the nation through detailed and scholarly discussions with in
the two days research conference, Dr. Amare concluded.

DMU Social Science and Humanities College is undertaking the first Annual National Research
Conference since one among the missions of higher institutions is conducting demand driven and
problem solving researches and devising innovative ideas that would enable to alleviate the
existing environs and bring the development of the nation at large.

Research would be meaningless since innovation is not an end by itself unless it is implemented
on the real ground, the college remarked. Thus, collaboration and working together shall be
strengthened among researchers and participants to enhance research outputs. Thereby,
innovative ideas which are developed by the researchers and participants could be disseminated
to users to bring the intended changes. Thus, in turn would help to build personal virtue, social
transformation and nation, the college underlined.

It is also noted that the objectives of the conference includes creating enabling environment for
stakeholders to discuss and suggest possible solutions on quality education and ethics, enabling
stakeholders to evaluate themselves how far they are prepared on academic discourses, enabling
scholars to work focusing at quality education, language and policy implementation, social
transformation and nation building, developing possible ideas that can be changed in to projects
and producing proceedings for researches on education, language and other related issues.

In addition, the researches to be presented focus on quality education in social science and
humanities, scientific social issues including social studies which are history, heritage,
archeology, culture, tourism, conflict resolution, governance, ethics, gender, migration, IDPs,
food security, politics, climate, natural resource management, globalization, development,
contemporary social issues, urbanization, etc and issues related to language and media and on
communication studies focusing on literature, folklore, linguistics, language teaching, media,
communication, etc.

Finally, it is noted that 23 research papers will be presented for discussion and there will be a
discussion floor that will help to improve the outcomes of the researches that will contribute in
developing personal virtue, social transformation and nation building.
