Do you agree with the

statement that “The faster
technology develops, the more
humans are degraded”?

INTRODUCTION:

I solemnly believe the third law of Sir Isaac Newton that every
action has an equal and opposite reaction.Holding this axiom
technology marched on towards both endorsing and degrading
human being from it’s very inception.Let us consider Oxygen
without which we cannot live. The percent composition of
Oxygen is 20 percent in the natural air.If the percent
composition of oxygen were 100 percent would we be able to
sustain even a minute?Just like excess of anything ends in
smoke that oxygen will kill us and technology will continue
degrading humanity. So,yes I do agree with the proposed issue.

Before mainspring let me apprise the core aspects:-

 Technology.
 Human degradation.
 How the faster development of technology plays role in
human degradation.

TECHNOLOGY:

Technology is the set of knowledge, skills, experience and

techniques through which humans transform and use in order
to create tools & products that meets our needs and desires.

Human degradation:

It is nothing but loss of human traits & dignity and violation of

human rights.Though technology was shaped to make human
life more comfortable and risk free but the part assuring human
degradation has become a matter of concern.

Here are the sectors which show the role of technology in

human degradation:

 Physical health:
1)The use of technological devices for hours leads us to
sedentary lifestyle.According to World Health Organization
60%-80% people lead sedentary lifestyle which increases
the risk of many diseases namely-diabetes,cardiovascular
disease, colon cancer and obesity.A 5 year study in ‘Applied
Ergonomics’ journal finds association between texting on
mobile phone and eye strain, neck, upper back pain in
young adults.
2)A 2014 case study shows that blue light radiated from
cell phones,e-readers and computers is enough to disturb
body’s natural circadian rhythm which causes insomnia.
 Mental health:
Let me just utter 3 names:

1)Depression and Anxiety.

2)Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

3)Narcissism.

All of us have heard these.Unanticipatedly most of us do not

know the background. These psychological issues are caused by
using social network reported by concerned
specialists.Needless to say online websites are an opportunity
for people who show excessive interest in one's appearance
and oneself which is known as narcissism.

 Relationships:
Following description shows how negative impact of
technology can turn our relationships into:

1)Familial:

Detachment between parents and children has

escalated a lot with technological expansion.Children
see this detachment as freedom where parents find it as
a loss of connection to their children and understand
their failure. Both children and parents are similarly
guilty as they are equally wrapped up by technology.

2)Social:

We all experience the scenario of people sitting

together and looking at phones without having a real
conversation. We built technology for a better
society;assuredly this is not the one.A study conducted
by Tamyra Pierce,a professor of California State
University on students of 280 high schools showed a
proportional relation between social anxiety and digital
platform usage.

3)Personal:

A 2014 Pew Research poll indicated that one in four cell

phone owners married or in a relationship found their
partners too distracted by mobile phones.According to
Ohio counselor Jessica Wade,MAMFT,LPCC,overreliance
on technology may cause misunderstandings and
partners lose the opportunity to make those immediate
relationship a real one.

4)Workplace relationship:

A report was conducted by Randstad on workers of 34

countries about communication in technological
workplace. The survey showed that over three-quarters
of workers feel technology has majorly impacted their
jobs, over half feel technology makes society less
humane and over 90% believe that a face-to-face
meeting is the best way to interact with someone.

 Moral values and Ethics:

A horrific story published by a Chinese
newspaper,Sanxiang City News proves human degradation
due to technology.According to them a couple sold their
three children for 9700 USD to meet the expense of video
games. When they were asked if they missed their children
at all, the couple answered, ”We don’t want to raise
them;we want to sell them for money.”Perceiving this I
quote from Sir Albert Einstein. I quote-
I fear the day technology will surpass our human
interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.
I unquote.

 Productivity and employment:

1)Cell phones are a cause of distraction while doing
work. Messaging application sends constant
notifications which keep employees hooked to their
phone. Besides free internet in workplace can be used
in personal cause to a great extent.Easy availability or
access to web can cause hindrance in productivity.
2)Though technology is creating new job opportunities
but requires definite skills which may not be possible for
everyone to achieve.Especially for the workers of
ground level known to handy works with less IT skills
will find it difficult to get acquainted with digital job
platforms. The countries which are running on the skills
of day laborers like farmers may see a rise of
unemployment which will cause serious deflation.
 Privacy and Security:
The negativity of technology is observed most
here. From cyber bullying to invasion of privacy, hacking
& phishing have made human life miserable. In April
Chinese authorities arrested four men for breaking into
online bank accounts using a computer virus called
"graypigeon" and sentenced them between two and a
half & eight years in prison fining more than
$20,000.During this global pandemic marketplaces on
the dark web have seen a rise in Covid-19 related
products.Sought-after N95 maskes,gowns,gloves and
the drug chloroquine have all been itemized
there.Security software firm IntSights found blood
belonging to recovered coronavirus patients was even
being offered for sale.Criminals hope a heightened
sense of fear will make people rush to buy these
products and as a result these are not cheap. An
Australian Institute of Criminology report found the
average fake vaccine was sold for about $370 while one
supposedly sourced from China was selling between
$10-15,000.These are only the tips of the iceberg that
we are noticing, its consequence is far more horrifying.

 Newer technology…a gift or a threat?:

Newer technology are emerging almost every day for
unending efforts of scientists. But are these technologies
directly or indirectly posing threat to us?YES.Clustered
Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR)
is a 19th century invention which allows to delete
undesirable traits by adjusting genes. This technology has
shocked the world when a Chinese scientist created HIV
resistant babies by using CRISPR.The Chinese government
investigation has found he seriously violated state laws in
pursuit of “personal fame and fortune.” If a rogue scientist
tampering quietly in a lab can smash through
rules, thousand more dangerous applications of CRISPR
could be in store.
 Conclusion:
Throughout thousands of years mankind has been lighting
the torch of humanity over the whole world.Disasters, war
would come very often but for last few centuries it is
obvious that nature never held us back rather it was
‘Human Nature’ which impeded our splendid
prosperity. Thanks to our indulgence. We are at stake right
now but this crisis will be alleviated today or
tomorrow. But our hyped fear of coming out of simulation
might not end in near future. Its about time we understood
that we are supposed to control technology. The future is
going to be pointed with the shadows of technology but
we are to choose whether to live in Utopia or Dytopia
where centuries old slavery would come back in a new
shell being covered by our so beloved TECHNOLOGY.
