A person who is interested in taking up psychology can choose between

AB psychology also known as Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and BS
psychology which is known as Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Students in a
BS program will generally need several more math and lab science courses
than students in an AB program. Graduates with a BS are prepared for
graduate studies in psychology or a similar field. They may also choose to enter
the field of psychology as a psychology technician, case manager or
rehabilitation counselor. Students with a BA degree are equipped for graduate
studies in areas like business, social work or law. Career options with an AB
degree range from human resources to sales to other business opportunities
(WordPress, 2012).

Many psychologists work for educational institutions combine several

interests by teaching, conducting research, and serving as counselors or
therapists. Many other psychologists hold jobs in hospitals, clinic, mental
health centers, government agencies, research organizations, consulting firms,
or business companies. Still others are self-employed (World Book, Inc., 2017).

The educational requirements to become a psychologist may vary

according to specialization. Most psychology careers require a doctoral degree
especially those in clinical, research, and counseling. You can complete either
a Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) degree or a Ph.D. in psychology. The school
psychologists on the other hand are required to earn at least a master’s degree
or a doctoral degree in psychology. Other specialties that require a master’s
degree in psychology include the industrial-organizational psychologists or as
assistants to clinical, counseling, and research settings. Those with a
bachelor’s degree in psychology can be employed in sales, business
administration, or education. The licensure requirements also vary in the field
of psychology. To practice independently and use the title of the ‘psychologist’,
you are required to be licensed. School, clinical, and counseling psychologists
are among the psychologists who are required to earn a license to practice. The
9

licensure requirements will also vary by state. Continuing education courses

are also required to maintain the license (How to Become a Psychologist, 2012).

In the United States, a person who plans to have a private practice as a

psychologist must be licensed by the state in which he or she plans to practice.
Most stated require that such a person have a doctoral degree. The chief
professional organizations for psychologists in the United States are the
American Psychological Association (APA) and the Association for Psychological
Science (APS) (World Book, Inc., 2017). This is only the example of Bachelor of
Science in Psychology wherein individual needs further studies about sciences
in order to have a good job in the state.

According to Raymond Philippe one of the authors of owlcation website,

there are five reasons to study psychology. First, You Learn Why People Can
Act Strangely; Second, You Learn About Experiments; Third, You Learn to Do
Research; Fourth, You Learn About Mental Disorders and Treatment Options;
and fifth, You Gain Insight into People's Behavior.

According to Mehta (2018), there are five strategies millennial use to

build successful careers. They just happen to be great advice for people at any
age.

 Innovate- Instead of waiting for change to find you, continuously

innovate in your job to stay ahead of it. Take the initiative to come
up with ideas for doing things better--and then have the courage to
advance and implement them. Mehta says, "Experience isn't
required for innovation. Thinking differently is. Look at everything
and figure out where and how you can contribute, and then do so."

 Collaborate- One of the best ways to advance your career is to

think, "How can I help others succeed?" When your team wins, you
win along with it. It's not all about you--when you're a team player,
you build a strong foundation for your own success. According to
10

Mehta, "Who gets credit is irrelevant. What matters is that as a

team you are doing great work, achieving your goals. Steer people
in the right direction. Make others look good--your clients and
colleagues, bosses, and employees. Be a true team player and
success will come back to you tenfold."

 Google it- With Google at your fingertips, you no longer have to

tell your boss "I don't know" when you're asked a question you
don't know the answer to. Instead, you can say, "I will find out,"
and have an answer quickly and easily. Mehta says, "Today, we
have an opportunity most people didn't, to surf our way to
becoming an expert or at least dangerously close--with Google as a
secret weapon."

 Rethink dedication- When a boss gives you an assignment, as a

dedicated employee you usually jump right in--sometimes without
thinking. Instead of racing to a solution, step back for a moment
and think about how you can do it better and smarter. Go beyond
normal dedication to think about alternatives. Apply logic to your
work. Do more than is asked of you. There is always a better,
faster way to do things. As Mehta suggests, "Work smarter--not
harder--and you will outwit your competitors and move up in your
company at a rapid pace."

 Chase skills, not titles- We all want to get promoted in our jobs,
and achieve the job titles that go along with those promotions. This
is a mistake. People get so focused on what they should do that
they lose sight of what they could do. Your success in the long run
won't come from working for a dream company or holding a
prestigious job title. It depends on the skills and abilities you learn
and bring to the table. Mehta says, "Think of your career in terms
of building blocks, each block representing a set of skills--and then
11

do the work. Do whatever it takes to acquire the skills that will

help take you to the next level. This takes guts and a willingness to
turn a traditional career path on its head."

Sun Tzu’s “A General Theory of Success” explains that like all sciences,
Sun Tzu's strategy for comparing positions simplifies the natural world with a
set of principles. Even mastering a few of these principles makes it easier for us
to understand how to improve our strategic position. Throughout history,
people have rediscovered these principles through trial and error.  These
principles have been documented in various ways in different competitive
arenas. Many are familiar from military history; others from sports; and still
others from business.

Is Success Luck?

Luck and skill play a part in success, but consistent progress requires
more than luck or skill alone. The race does not always go to the swift or the
fight to the strong, but, over the long run, the contest always goes to those with
the best strategy, that is, the best response to their current conditions.

The Science of Strategy Institute has organized Sun Tzu's principles into
a comprehensive Play Book based on situational needs. It is organized
according to a process: information about situations is gathered, situations are
analyzed, opportunities identified, decisions executed, and rewards gained.
Each day, an article from this Play Book is offered for free to the general public.
However, since the relative value of each article depends on your current
situation.

The Real Limits of Knowledge

In Game Theory, a strategy is defined as the rules of response to specific

conditions. While game theory is a useful tool for learning about strategy, the
12

simplicity that allows situations to be well-modeled mathematically almost

never occurs in real life competition. Unlike game theory, Sun Tzu's strategy
assumes we cannot know the "payoffs" available in a given situation before we
must act.  So instead of complex calculations based on unknowable payoffs,
Sun Tzu offers simple comparisons to respond to knowable competitive
conditions. Sun Tzu's methods are based on how people usually react in
common situations. It is called the science of positioning because it reduces
strategic decisions to the relative improvement of the comparable aspects
of positions.

A Step-By-Step Methodology

Sun Tzu's strategy takes an incremental approach to success. The

researchers develop stronger positions not all at once, but gradually over time
by making better choices. We cannot leap into a powerful position any more
than we can leap to the top of a building. We build a dominating position over
time by making good decisions about the conditions that we face every day. We
climb a ladder toward our goals, one rung at a time.

They will find the principles of Sun Tzu's strategy appealing because they
make sense. They require no real mathematics or abstract conceptualizations.
Though they write about positioning generically, it provides a simple yet
valuable perspective from which we can understand competitive situations
more easily. This book of knowledge gives you a detailed list of the principles by
which situation trained adaptive response strategy works.

Key Success Factors to Achieve Your Career Goals

Success requires hard work, patience, self-confidence and
determination. It is a process of failing better and making things happen.
This topic discusses factors to achieve career goals.
13

The primary goal should be to increase the likelihood that they will be
one of those remarkable people who achieves greatly and makes a real
difference with his or her life.

To realize the full potential, they must focus on their career goals, hard
work and success factors. Free yourself as much as possible from randomness
and uncertainty. You must organize your life in such a way that the
probabilities of achieving your career goals are extremely high.

You must learn the cause and effect relationships between what you
want and how to get it through hard work and goal planning. You must take
complete control over every part of your life and create your own future. You
must leave nothing to chance.

Luck or Hard Work?

When people achieve great success faster than others, they are

immediately accused of having “good luck” and rarely attribute it to hard
work. When people make a mess of their lives, largely due to their own
shortcomings, they dismiss it as “bad luck.”

One of the reasons for this confusion about the reasons for success
and failure is that most people don’t understand the difference between
“chance” and “luck.” Chance refers to gambling, to casinos, to blackjack,
poker, slot machines and horse racing. In games of chance, the outcome is
almost completely out of your control and has nothing to do with success
factors in life.

Luck however is something completely different from chance. What we

call “luck” is really the Law of Probabilities in action. The “lucky” individual
has done many things that in combination dramatically increased the
likelihood that his or her desired career goals would be achieved. If they
14

examine the history of any great success, and review the many actions that
preceded it, you will see that the success factors precede it; they will see a
definite pattern emerge. They will see that the successful individual did
many little things, sometimes for years, which made the final success
possible.

The Basic Principle of Achieving Your Career Goals

Here is a rule: There is a direct relationship between the number of

different things you attempt and your likelihood of eventual success in
achieving your career goals.

If a new salesperson gets up early each morning, works hard, plans

his day, works steadily all day long, talks to as many prospects as possible,
follows up persistently, and continually works on himself to improve his
selling skills by reading, audio learning and regular attendance at sales
courses and seminars, he is going to be far more successful than another
salesperson who fails to do these things. His high earnings will not be a
matter of luck but rather of design and hard work.

Success factors in life and in your career goals are as follows, if you

get a good education, thoughtfully match your career choice with your
natural talents and abilities, and continually work to upgrade your skills
and the value of your contribution to your company, they eventual success
by achieving their career goals will not be the result of luck (Tracy, 2017).

Create Success Factors for Yourself

An additional luck factor is The Law of Averages, which is an extension

of the law of probabilities. This law says that, “Although you cannot predict
which one of a series of events will be successful, by the Law of Averages,
15

you know that by doing a certain thing a certain number of times, you will
achieve your career goals.”

Achieve Your Life Goals

If they continually innovate and try new methods to achieve their goals
or solve your key problems, they are going to be vastly more successful than
someone who plays it safe and tries nothing new or different and you are
adding to your success factors. If they wish to achieve success in life and
reach your career goals, you must put in hard work and invest in the
success factors that will get you there.

Therefore, being a successful individual does not only mean that they
have graduated the degree you are taking up. Every individual has its own
meaning of success whether it’s his/her career or goals in life. The researchers
were able to understand deeply what the different fields of psychology are and
how psychologists took up their chosen degree either AB psychology or BS
psychology. This study also explains how an individual can achieve success
only if they will realize how important it is to do whatever it takes only if they
aim succeed. In addition, it can deepen their knowledge if they able to
understand about “The Iceberg Theory of Success” helps them realize that
every successful person had to invest a lot of effort and hard work to achieve
their goals and success. All the efforts of a successful person lie beneath the
surface and can sometimes be difficult to understand or achieve. So, remember
next time if they strive to greatness, a successful outcome is only a small
portion of the full story. Success only comes from the hard work and effort that
lies beneath the surface.
