UPDATE Issue 5: Tuesday 5th April 2011

Hello ACTIV-8ers!
We’ve lost 56 stone and 6 pounds in 3 weeks! We’re still on track for reaching our 100 stone target!
We need to make a massive effort over the ‘Final Four’ weeks to get as much weight off / fitness
gained as we can! Say NO to those buns and takeaways and get those trainers on everyday!
Just a reminder to all – if you are bringing a friend or two to any ACTIV-8 activities, don’t worry about
giving the activity leader money that day – just throw an extra pound or two in the pot at the next weigh
in! £7 per week represents serious value for money when you consider the range and amount of activities on
offer – not one person is getting paid for the programme so ALL money raised goes directly towards the
club - it is much appreciated and very useful!

Mary Daly has been keeping the Carmen population busy with her weekly rambles around the
countryside. So far, we’ve rambled around Innishatieve, Pomeroy Forest, Peatlands Park and this week,
we’ll tackle the ‘V’ shaped valley in the Carmen horizon known as Bernish Glen. This 5 mile walk start
at Cloughfin Ball Alley and will be well paced. It will be hilly and muddy so get your wellies sorted in
advance! Pray for good weather too! Huge thanks to Mary for all the work she is doing for ACTIV-8!

Mothers Day Madness!

What an event we had @ Pairc Colmcille last week! Fair play to everyone for making the effort to come
out and represent their teams! There were some very imaginative costumes on display with the Orange
team really upping the ante! They get 20 bonus points for effort! The Marathon Challenge winners
were the Black team winning 20 bonus points, completing their 85 laps in 20 minutes and 12 seconds!
The Red team came second with 20.31 (16 bonus points), then green on 21.37 (12 bonus points),
purple 22.05 (10 bonus points), blue 22.30 (8 bonus points), yellow 23.43 (6 bonus points), orange
23.44 (4 bonus points), pink 28mins (2 bonus points).

The Yellow team won the Longest Egg Throw; winning 15 bonus points. The Purple team came
second and get 10 bonus points. The Blue team came third (5 bonus points). There was a steward’s
enquiry surrounding the Pass the Egg competition with the judge eventually disqualifying all teams
except the Green team based on firm video evidence! The Black team broke their egg on the line, while
the yellow team were disqualified on two counts – 1. for egg theft and 2. for attacking an official with
an egg! The Green team have been awarded 15 bonus points for their very honest efforts!

Well done all – this is what ACTIV-8 is about! We are some craic / mad depending on your viewpoint!!

A successful Carmen Clinic was held last with ACTIV-8ers able to get advice and rubs from our team
of specialists. Conor McElduff and Roisin Rafferty provided Physio advice while Sean Fullerton and
Etaoine O’Kane rubbed away any aches and pains. Dr Maire Slane was also on hand to offer medical
advice to anyone seeking it. Thanks to those people for giving their time to the club and ACTIV- 8.

Week 5 Challenge: We want every single ACTIV-8er to make the effort to lose ONE POUND each at
least! If we all lose a single pound, then we’ll lose a combined 14 stone minimum – this will bring us
very close to a combined weight loss of 1000 pound! We can do our bit for our team and the challenge!

Week 5 Captains! This programme is a massive undertaking

Black – Ryan Daly Orange – MJ Mullan so we need all the help we can get! If you

Green – Ryan McCallan Pink – Ryan McAleer see your name on the programme as

Blue – Peadar Fox Yellow – Lawrence Kelly activity leader, don’t be too stressed! If it

Red – Brian Moore Purple – Coilin Daly doesn’t suit, just delegate someone else to
lead it! We’re fairly casual that way!
