Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause respiratory /rɪˈspɪr.ə.tər.i/ infections.

These can
range from the common cold to more serious diseases. COVID-19 is the disease caused a pandemic by a
new coronavirus. It was first reported in December 2019 in Wuhan City in China.

Coronaviruses are a type of virus. There are many different kinds, and some cause disease. A
coronavirus identified in 2019, SARS-CoV-2, has caused a pandemic of respiratory illness, called COVID-
19.

The whole family of coronaviruses are named coronavirus, because corona means crown, and so this
refers to the way that virus looks under the microscope like there's a crown on the top of the virus

- Disinfection /ˌdɪs.ɪnˈfek.ʃən/ (n) the process of cleaning something using chemicals that kill
bacteria and other organisms (= very small living things) that cause disease: khử khuẩn
- declaration /ˌdek.ləˈreɪ.ʃən/ (n) (ANNOUNCEMENT) an announcement, often one that is written
and official: tuyên bố, khai báo
- diarrhea /ˌdaɪ.əˈriː.ə/ (n) an illness in which the body's solid waste is more liquid than usual and
comes out of the body more often: tiêu chảy

- With no medical prevention available, isolating the sick was the only effective public health
defense.

- With many pandemics, the best chance at prevention was to keep sick people away from
healthy people. This is called a quarantine.

 Where 'Quarantine' Comes From? the word “quarantine” has both French and Italian influences.
In the late 1400s (fourteen hundreds), English speakers borrowed the French word quarantaine
which means “a period of about 40 days.” Quarante is the word for the number 40 (forty) in
French.
- An epidemic is when an infectious disease spreads rapidly to a large population. This is different
from a pandemic, where an infectious disease spreads around the globe.

A message featuring the 5K was launched last September by the Ministry of Health to help
citizens get used to living safely with the Covid-19 pandemic. 5K is the short written form in
Vietnamese of five rules people should follow to prevent the virus infection as recommended by
the health ministry, including Khau trang (face mask) – Khu khuan (disinfection) – Khoang
cach (distancing) – Khong tu tap (no gathering) – Khai bao y te (health declaration).
