A "Violent" Sport

Rugby is a close-contact team sport that originated in England in the first half of the 19th
century. This sport is played using an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field called a pitch. In
its most common form, a game is played between two teams of 15 players each, who run with the
ball in hand.

Rugby, like the great majority of sports, search to score the highest number of points to win the
match. The team with the highest number of points on its scoreboard will win the match. In the
event of a draw in rugby, an extension of 20 minutes is added. If after these additional 20
minutes the match is still tied, 10 minutes will be added. In the event that both teams remain in
a draw, victory will be played in penalty mode.

From its origins it was rapidly expanding around the world until in 1923 it became an Olympic
sport, which we will be able to enjoy in the next Tokyo 2020 games.

Rugby emerged in a peculiar way. According to what they say, in 1823, the football player of the
Rugby School, William Webb Ellis, tired of his team losing, caught the ball in his hands and ran with
it to the end of the opposite field to score a goal. This was very much appreciated by the
tournament participants, his club and the spectators. From there it began to play by catching the
ball with their hands and they created the rules of “Rugby Soccer”, the soccer that the members of
the “Rugby Club” played, from there the name of this sport according to this legend.

There are some people who think that rugby is a violent sport, others say that it is a wild sport. In
particular, I disagree with they. I think there is no violent sport, it may be a bit strong but we
cannot say that it is violent. Maybe rugby is not such a well-known sport, but I think it would be
worth practice it sometime, after all it is always good to experience new things.
