My little niece loves storytelling.

Today she told me an old fable that was so powerful that I felt compelled to
share.
One day, a hungry snake, looking for food, entered a carpenter’s workshop.
The carpenter, who was a rather untidy man, had left several of his tools
lying on the floor. One of them was a saw (a large blade). As the snake
went round and round the shop, it climbed over the saw, which gave it a
little cut. At once, thinking that the saw was attacking it, the snake turned
around and bit it so hard that its mouth started to bleed. This made the
snake very angry. So the snake decided to roll around the saw as if
wanting to suffocate it with his whole body. As the snake squeezed the saw
the snake got hurt even more. The snake thought it had to attack harder so
it squeezed even more. This went on until the snake finally lost the battle
and died.
I sat there shaken at the profundity of the story while my little niece happily
trotted away.
Had the snake been wise to ignore and walk past the saw, he could stand a
chance to recover and live.
Experiencing injustice at the hands of someone is not new to human race,
isn’t it? No race, no gender has ever been excluded. Some injustices are
minor and some are life-altering.
Amidst a culture and entertainment that endorses vengence, would you
ever choose to forgive and let go? Would you choose to forgive the abuser
and forgive yourself for being a victim to such injustice?
When we don’t choose to forgive, we are not only in the danger of our hearts not
healing, but also of passing on our pain to others.
Forgiveness is wisdom. Forgiveness does not contradict justice. It just acknowledges
that there is a God who is greater than the wrong that has been done to us, and in
this, recognising that God is fully capable of weaving our life’s injustices into a
greater whole.
God is a redeemer. God is a God of restoration. He is able to perfect that which
concerns you in spite of what has been done to you. And if you can make it to the
other side of forgiveness, Oh, it can catapult your life to a whole new level.
