The concept of the trinity is widely misunderstood by many Christians.

Growing up as a Christian, I never

really got it. Did I believe in the trinity? Of course I did and still do. However, I was on the fence on it
because I couldn't explain how God can exist as three different persons. If I don't get it, how can I
explain it to someone of a different faith? Moreover, Muslims believe Christians pray three different
gods- God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

One day while driving, I kept pondering on the whole concept of the trinity. I kept asking myself if it
made any sense at all--God existing as three persons in one. Then it dawned on me--Man was created in
the image of God. (Genesis 1:26)

If man is created in the image of God, then I don't have to look any further for the answer to the trinity.
The right question to ask now is do I exist as a trinity? Do I consist of three distinct beings; all in one?
Well, the answer is a resounding YES!

A man has a Body, a Soul, and a Spirit. If a man dies, and he looks down at his body, he would be able to
identify the body laying on the bed as his. Now, when we die, our body decays, our spirit goes back to
God who has lent it to us as a point of contact with Him, and depending on how we lived our lives,
we(our soul) may be accepted into the presence of God, or be in the absence of God. It's interesting that
the devil is not interested in our spirit or our body, but our soul for eternity.

Our soul controls our mind, which in turn controls our body, and may prevent the Spirit of God from
interfacing with the spirit He's given us. It is also interesting to note that our soul contains our Freewill
which God has given to us. A man without the spirit of God in his spirit-being is like a car without a
battery. He's not sure of what would happen when he dies. Once the spirit of God is in a man, everything
lights up, and he's connected with the Life source.

A soul without a spirit is the same as dead. Perished for all eternity. A soul in the presence of God has
the spirit of God and thereby will be alive. Alive for eternity. No wonder John 3:16 says he that believes
in Him(Jesus) shall not perish, but have everlasting life. Fortunately, If we live according to the teachings
of Jesus, we will get our body back, but this time, it would've taken on immortality.
