D-Day occurred on June 6, 1944, and it was also called Operation Overlord.

2. Who planned the invasion at Normandy? Why?

General Dwight D. Eisenhower, with the help of the then U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt,
planned the invasion at Normandy because they wanted to push German forces back.

3. What was the state of the war in 1943? Who was winning? How do you know?

In 1943 Germany was winning the war and I know this because it took over most of Europe.

4. Who wanted to begin fighting the Germans in 1941? How did this person propose to fight
Germany? Why did this not immediately happen?

Soviet leader Joseph Stalin and his countrymen wanted to begin fighting the Germans in 1941
and proposed this at the beginning of the war however this did not immediately happen because
America’s army was not completely formed.

5. In what ways were the Allies delayed in fighting Germany? What events came before
their eventual and planned invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe?

The allies were delayed in fighting Germany by the lack of troops and because the British
convinced the US Germany was not a threat. One main event that came before their eventual and

Hitler had been aware for a long time that the Allies would eventually initiate an invasion across
the Channel thus he planned for it. He planned by putting Field Marshal Erwin Rommel in
charge of the Channel coast’s defenses.

7. Was D-Day a short or long military campaign (battle)? How do you know?

D-Day is a short military campaign, and I know this because it lasted for 2 months.

8. Was D-Day a success? Why or why not?

D- Day was a success because Allied forces ultimately won, however it was not easy and didn't
go according to plan.
