The Text :

I was 12 years old at that time. In my free time, I enjoyed walking for long

distances into the countryside, outside our little town. I usually went with my

best friends, Peter and John. They were my age, and we went to the same

school. During the school holidays, we always took our sandwiches and drinks and

went to spend a whole day in the countryside where we could go around, playing

funny games for long hours.

One day, a girl called Jane came with us. She was Peter’s cousin. In the

beginning, we didn’t like her but we had to accept her, because Peter’s mother

said so. It was difficult for us. We thought that a girl should not go with us on

our adventures. She should stay at home where there are many things for a girl

to do. She could do her homework, or help her mother with the housework. Jane

was two years younger than us. She was slim with long brown hair, a round face

and big eyes. She wore jean trousers, a shirt and a sweater just like the rest of

us, boys. But what could we do with her ? We had just to accept her in our

group, to please Peter’s mother.
