During the past thirty years many changes nave taken place
in American sociaty. One of these changes is that many more

American couples are getting divorced, There are many reasons

for this increasa in the number of divorces. One of the reasons

may be that young people are attracted to each other and become

eager to get married at an ©arly age. When they are first

married they seem to get along with each other very well. Then,
all at oncaf the attraction between them weakens and,

conseguently, they end up getting a divorce. They do not stay in

the relationahip long enough to see if they could have gotten

along bettar with each other. if, before they got married, they
had inquired about the difficultíes one must face in a marriage,

maybe they would have waited for a few years before they got
married-

Kathryn had an interesting experience ten yeacs ago. She wanted

a. job in another átate with a company that seemed to hice only malea,

Most of her gemale friends thought it wasn't a good idea. Would she

really be able to tolérate working with men who didn't want «ornen in

their company? in that situation, would che men be tolerant enough

for her to be able to work with them? She felt ahe could put up with

anything i£ she could get the Job. She could work alongside any man

with complete confidence as long as her gualifications were

recogniaed. So Kathryn wrote a letCer applying for a Job. However,

she neglected to state her aex and she didn't sign the letter Kathryn

Haijgold. InsceadH she signed ÍC K.B. Mangoid, She received a letter

back offering her a very good Job along with excellent pay. She

decided Chat perhaps, once in a rthileH it's a good idea to give, not

false facts, but incompleta ones. She accepted the job offer, feeling

she could win the toleranee of the all male company and, in addition,

their respect, by working hard. Because they hired her on her

qualificationSx noc knowing if her sex was raale or femalej they'd have

to try and get along with her.

Today, Kathryn IB the president of her own company. She has hoth

males and females working Éor her and she has the teapect of all of

them.
