RATIONAL NUMBERS
Rational numbers are also called fractions. We use fractions to tell the part we get from a
whole or from a group.

In this unit, we shall learn about fractions ,

ONE-THIRD
A. One-third of a whole
Nena bought one whole pizza pie. She cut it into 3 equal parts so that her two sisters
would have a share.

Each of them got of the pizza pie.

We write :
We say : one-third

B. One-third of a group
There are six glasses on a tray. Only of the glasses are filled with orange juice.
How many glasses are filled with orange juice?

of 6 = 2

Another example:
of 12 = 6
