Shrine Draws Visitors
to Rosicrucian Park
in California
A temple without roof or walls Is
attracting thousands of visitors lo tho
Rosicrucian park In San Jose, Calif.
The strangely constructed temple
is an exact replica of the famous
temple of Karnak. built by the Egyp
tians In the year 1350 B. C.
In every detail the original shrine
has been reconstructed: hieroglyph
ics and complex decoration represent
ing weeks of tedious carving and
painting have made the temple one
of the most unusual buildings in the
United Slates.
The odd monument commemorates
the memory of the founders of the
Rosicrucian brotherhood, one of the
oldest organizations in the world.
Over 3.000 yenrs ago. In a like temple,
these sages gathered to share their
wisdom with those desiring counsel.
It was a t tho time of the erection
of the temple of Karnak. Egyptian
historians contend, that Amonhotcp
IV founded the famous fraternity
whlrh continues to disseminate Its
knowledge to this day.
The Rosicrucian brotherhood,
known generally as AMORC. has re
cently completed the unique temple
as a part of the building program on
I heir grounds In California, their
North American headquarters. An
Egyptian auditorium, dcdicatcd to
the memory of Sir Francis Dacon. at
one time a Rosicrucian leader, also Is
nearing completion in the Rosicru
cian park. The Milwaukee Journal

ROfSIORUCIANS MAKE
TRIP TO BIO TREES
Several hundred Rosicrucians
gathered at North American head
quarters at Amorc tem ple, in an
nual convention at San Jose, and
enjoyed a motor trip through the
Santa Cruz mountains to the
beach here yesterday.
The group visited points of in
terest on the coast, and returned
by way of the Big Trees, where
luncheon was served. For many
it was their first glimpse of the
glaat redwood trees, and they de
scribed the experience a thor
oughly enjoyable one.
D elegates returned to Ban Jose
in tim e for the devotional services
at Amorc tem ple in the evening.
Convention sessions were resum
ed today, continuing throughout
tom orrow and W ednesday. i

Dr. Lewis To
Resume Talks
On Sundays
Those who attended nny one of tho
weekly Sunday meetings conducted by
the Roslcrurlnn Order Inst winter, will
be particularly interested In the an*
noimcemcnt that tho public lectures
will be resumed November fl.
As last year, the lectures will be held
In the attractive Francis Bncon Audi-
torlum In Rosicrucian Park, Naglco
Avenue near Park, and will be con
ducted by Dr. H. Spencef Lewis, su
preme head of the order.
Tho subjects discussed by Dr. Lewis
do not deal with those touched upon
by religious organizations. Discussion
is upon principles whereby the Rosi
crucians havo demonstrated their abil
ity to uso universal laws and cosmic
activities in developing their inner
personal facilities to meet the demands
of human evolution and the require
ments of dally contact with human
affairs.
Eafh program consists of a brief
but Interesting form of Oriental ritual
accompanied by oxccllont music and
followed by the regular lecture.
Those who have attended the meet
ings here and in other citlcs where
they arc conductcd by the Rosicrucian
Order laud tho type of public meet
ing highly. Of special interest Is tho
part of tho program wherein Dr.
Lewis answers all questions relative
to human contacts. Theso questions,
which arc sent in previous to the meet
ing, arc carefully studied and answers
elaborated upon to clearly disclose
their association with the teachings
of the order.
Each week a different subject Is
announced and newer phases of living
discussed. There Is no admission
charged, no collection taken and
everyone Is welcome.

Centuries before Columbus had
discovered America the ancient
Egyptians had written of the land
“Where the Eagle Spreads Its
Wings." In the recent October num
ber of “The Rosicrucian Digest,"
published at San Jose, California,
official organ of the International
Rosicrucian Brotherhood, an article
written by the Supreme Secretary
of the order asserts that archaeolo
gists discovered ancient writings
outlining a system of symbolism to
govern the nations and continents
of the world.
The article reads, “There is a vast
amount of evidence to Indicate that
the Egyptian mystics knew centur
ies beforehand just how the roots
of civilization would divide and sub
divide. On a strange map found in
the archives of the mystery schools
of Egypt, we find, for instance, the
bear allotted to that area of land
now occupied by Russia, the lion
assigned to the islands constituting
the British Isles. The interesting
point is that the generally unknown
and undiscovered continent of North
| America was crudely indicated on
their maps. Three symbols were as
signed to this continent—they being
the pyramid, the obelisk, and the
eagle with its wings outspread in
flight."

“THE MAN INSIDE"
I don't know who wrote this article . . . It came to
me in the mail from the Rosicrucian Brotherhood, of
which I know nothing. But I do know there is truth in
these paragraphs, and I hope the Rosicrucians will not
mind if I reprint them —because I wish I'd written them.
Here they are:
"It s not the man you bathe, clotha and feed that
does your thinking. It's not the man you compel to labor
to m aintain a home or family or that you force to fight for
righteousness who really cares. It's not the man thru
whose ears you hear words of praise for your acts or deeds.
It's not ho that fills you with pride. It’s not the man
you see in the mirror to whom you’re responsible for what
you are.
"It's the man inside.
"The outer man is one of bone, sinew and blood. Of
Ithese things, he was formed at birth. This phenomenon
is neither the result of man’s will nor choloe. Nature
1thereupon extends to man the alternative of life or death.
It is incumbent on man to choose—there is no midcourse.
The infant knows nothing of life at birth. The child is
bewildered by what he does know of it, and man is aware
of its illusions. Who, therefore, encourages them to
choose life?
"It's the man inside.
"This outer man we can see—what a mighty victor
he may become. He commands the forces about him. He
spans the rivers and harnesses the tide. He times the
cosmic bodies as they traverse the heavens. He links the
continents with his voice and for his travels he has the
sea. land or air for choice. Ye there are those who are
dismal and in despair who not alone the outer world
