TYPES OF INTERPRETING

Many people make the mistake of thinking of interpretation and translation as the same idea.

However, they have distinct differences. While interpretation is oral, translation is written. In the

following lines, we will analyze the types of interpreting.

There are two types of interpreting: consecutive and simultaneous. In consecutive interpreting,

the interpreter listens to the speaker and then takes notes. Those notes are very different from the

ones we use for long-term memory. They are notes that interpreters use to concentrate on the flow of

the speaker's ideas to transmit his message. It is an old technique, but it takes many hours of training

and practice to handle it well. The second type of interpreting is simultaneous interpreting, the

interpreter must have broad knowledge and must have the ability to perform several functions at once

since they must listen, understand, transmit and correctly interpret the speaker's message into the

target language. Simultaneous interpretation is of great importance and is widely used in international

organizations.

Nowadays, with the development of technology, translation tools are being created. However, it

is necessary to have human interpreters because only a human can process ideas and predict them, as

well as the cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence that we can rely on.
