Question 6
As I read, my mind skewed a lot towards women as they were lured into a false account
of women's empowerment and extravagance. Women had very little agency once they were
capable of being Playmates or Bunnies. I don't draw a severance between individuals in and
beyond the Playboy prospect. All through the class, it has been made apparent that gender roles
are altered throughout history. This is to serve a purpose of their time, and consistently
throughout these shifts in narratives, women and men typically want to fit the mold that's
pandered to them as ideal, and Playboy is no different. I don't see these women as implicit
because the narrative of female empowerment and ownership of sexuality is not something that
should have been damaging and oppressive. It was made this way because Hugh Hefner and men
like him dominated the scene. As I was reading, I felt sympathetic for the women in these times.
I suppose it was wrong for society to reduce females' roles because the male is supposed to be
the leader, and the women were made only to support them. I also understood the traditionalists
in today's society, where this type of inequality was accepted even though it was morally wrong.
It worked for humanity to work and grow with this type of manners. Girls in line of work desired
to be free like the girls in the outside world, while girls from the outside world desired to be like
Playboy Bunnies.
