School Culture and Climate

(Reflective essay)

After listening to the three videos about “School Culture and Climate”, it made me realize how
important the positive school culture and climate are. It would greatly affect to the every aspects of an
individual. It talks about, leadership, organization, and passion that school community must have in order to
be united in its success.

School heads and teachers who seeks to improve student performance should focus on improving
the school culture and climate by knowing the relationship right between themselves. School heads are the
concerned of the importance of leadership in creating high standard school. They influenced the
relationship that shape the culture and climate of the school. As for the teachers, who care and focus on
the specific aspects of the school climate that would greatly affect the culture of the school in promoting the
students achievement. It is obviously shown in the video that, every school must have a mission statements
that speaks to the beliefs, values, and aims of the learning community. And a vision that set the school goal
- where all of you hope to see it in the future. When a mission and vision is embedded in a school
community, and all of the members and leaders stay true, a school will flourish and move to its success.
The school would become a place to everyone’s growth – the mind, body, and heart. Teachers and
students learn to be mindful of emotions, challenges stress, and make room for academic learning and
enhance talents and skills. Leaders builds a culture of resilience and a model in how to react and cope with
stress, setbacks, and disputes. They teach students on how to bounce back, adjust, and proceed against
school and environment challenges. Resilient leaders take the action that responds to new and ever-
changing realities. A positive behaviour is a way of school to encourage good behaviour.

A sustainable, positive school culture and climate cultivate learners’ development and learning. It
support the people in a community to feel stable emotionally, mentally, and socially. As Maurice Elias said,
“A school that prepares students for academic and life success has a democratic, inclusive spirit. The spirit,
or climate, of a school is greater than the sum of its parts.”
