You are advised wo reread the remarks at the beginning of Chapter 3 concerning low
notes (p. 21). If difficulties persist experiment with softer reeds or putting a litle more
mouthpiece in the mouth. If neither approach has any effect it is possible that your
instrument is leaking. Have it thoroughly checked by your teacher, a professional player
ora competent repairer.
Ledger lines
Low C is placed on a ledger line. Ledger lines are extra lines placed above or below the
stave to allow for the notation of notes in the highest and lowest registers.

First and Second Time Bars a
‘The Bottom Line’ introduces first and second time bars. These arc frequently usec
save space on repeats, The second time hars are played as an alternative—ney
addition to the first time bars on the repeat.
