Dear School Counselors,

The BEAM Foundation, Inc. and the Brothers of the Beta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha
Fraternity, Inc. are excited about the upcoming 2021-2022 Alpha Beautillion year. We have been making
arrangements that are new and exciting and we plan to make this Alpha Beautillion season, the best in
our almost 20 year history. This communication is intended to provide School Counselors, Parents and
Potential Beaus with an overview of the Beautillion program and detail the next steps to becoming a
member of the 2021-2022 Alpha Beautillion:

B.E.A.M. Foundation: Building Excellence Affirming Manhood (B.E.A.M) Foundation is a 501(c)3

non-profit, community-based organization serving the African American communities throughout
Charlotte, North Carolina and surrounding areas. Our organization is dedicated to cultivating and
educating our youth through service, leadership development and experiential learning.

Background: The B.E.A.M Foundation in association with the Beta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi
Alpha Fraternity, Inc. created the “Alpha Beautillion”, a 10-month personal and leadership
development program to celebrate the achievements of young men of color who are in their senior
year of high school.

Activities: The Program is centered on college-bound seniors within Charlotte and surrounding
areas and focused on preparing them for college through over 20 developmental workshops including
two (2) college exposure trips. The Alpha Beautillion Gala is the culminating event where
participants, who are referred to as Beaus, are celebrated and presented to their family, friends and
community.

Participation: To participate in the Alpha Beautillion, each Beau is required to maintain a minimum
GPA of 2.5, conduct himself in a respectful manner, participate enthusiastically in the program and
raise a minimum of $500 (non-refundable) in patron donations, fundraising and/or corporate
sponsorships. The first $100 is due prior to the first workshop and the remaining $400 is due by
12/31/2021 to continue in the Program.

Success Coaches (Mentors): Each Beau will be paired with a Success Coach (Mentor), who is a
member of the Beta Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. The Success Coach
assists their assigned Beau with fundraising, deadlines, maintaining open lines of communication
and serves as an effective mentor/role model.

Awards/Scholarships: Each Beau will receive a scholarship equal to 70% of the total amount of
funds raised (minus the $500 minimum). Additionally, superlative award scholarships focused on
Academic Excellence, Community Service, Oratorical and S.T.E.M competitions, as well as an
Overall Beau scholarship will be awarded.
Conduct: Each Beau and his parent/guardian will sign a Code of Conduct Agreement (CoC) and an
Anti-Drug and Alcohol Agreement (AD&A). The aforementioned and a discipline chart are included in
the Alpha Beautillion Handbook. In the event a Beau violates either the CoC or AD&A Agreements,
disciplinary action will be enforced that may include expulsion from the Program.

COVID-19: The Alpha Beautillion will adhere to the CDC guidelines, North Carolina Executive Orders
and any local government guidance on protocols for any and all in-person sessions. In the event in-
person sessions are considered a risk or no longer viable, the Alpha Beautillion will leverage the
Microsoft Teams platform to deliver virtual sessions. Each Beau will receive instructions on how to
access the virtual platform.

Next Steps: Complete the 2021-2022 Alpha Beautillion Application (link below) and attend one of
the virtual information sessions (link below) on either Wednesday, September 1st or Thursday,
