M42 is super high speed tool steel is preheated to 871°C (1599°F), soaked and finally heated
to 1204°C (2199°F).
D2 is high speed steels can be tempered at 204ºC (400ºF) for achieving Rockwell C hardness
of 61 and at 537ºC (1000ºF) for a Rockwell C hardness of 54.
Local Market rates:

D2 750 Pkr. /Kg
If M42 material give twice the life as of D2 material then M42 is superior to D2, also there
will be less cobbles during production. Because M42 is less prone to wear and tear as
compare to D2, due to the presence of Cobalt (Co) and Tungsten (W).
The only problem is the brittleness of the M42 material, if it shows more cracks than D2
material during life-cycle, then moving back to D2 is the only alternative left.
