Learn Past Perfect Tense with concepts followed by the definitions, formulas,

negative sentences, interrogative and interro-negative sentences.

STEP - I

Past = ‫گزرا ہوا‬/‫ماضی‬

Perfect = ‫مکمل‬

Tense =  ‫ زمانہ‬/‫فعل‬

Present Perfect Tense =‫فعل ماضی مکمل‬

STEP - II

Definition of Past Perfect Tense:

In this tense anything is done, happened or borne in past complete aspects. Moreover,
any work which was started in past and completed in past time.         

                                                     :‫فعل ماضی مکمل کی تعریف‬

                                                                 ‫ایسا فعل جس میں کسی کام کا کرنا ہونا یا سہنا مکمل‬

‫گزرے زمانہ‬

                                                             ‫میں پایا جائے‬

‫یعنی ایسا کام جو ماضی میں شروع ہوا تھا اور بعد زمانہ‬

                                            ‫ماضی میں مکمل ہو چکا ہے۔‬

Recognition of Past Perfect Tense in English:

S +had+ 3rd form of Verb + O

Subject = ‫فاعل‬
Verb =  ‫فعل‬
Object = ,‫مفعول‬

‫کسی بھی فقرے میں کام کرنے واال فاعل کہالتا ہے اور جس زمانے میں کام ہو اسے فعل جبکہ جس پر‬
‫کام ہو اسے مفعول کہتے ہیں‬
They had done their duty.

                                       ‫ہے‬ ‫دے‬ ‫اپنی ڈیوٹی کر رہاہے یعنی کام کرنے واال‬ ‫دے‬ ‫اس فقرے میں‬

‫پر ہو‬ ‫ڈیوٹی‬ ‫ہے یعنی کام‬ ‫ڈیوٹی‬ ‫ سبجیکٹ ہےاور سبجیکٹ جس پر کام کررہا ہے وہ‬ ‫اس لیئے یہ فاعل یا‬
‫ ہے‬3‫رہا ہے لہذا یہ مفعول‬

    ‫ورب کی تیسری فارم ہے لہذا یہ زمانےکو ظاہر کرتی ہےاسلیئے یہ فعل ہے‬ ‫ڈن‬ ‫جبکہ‬

          
First of all, the subject is placed at the start of the sentence then 3rd form of the verb
followed by "had" and the object at the end with a full stop.

Examples:  

* 3V=3rd form of verb

 ‫سبجیکٹ کوئی بھی ہو امدادی فعل یعنی ہیلپنگ ورب‬ 

                                                        ‫ہی آئے گا‬had

S    + had+ 3V  +        O

S had 3V O
He had eaten bread.

S  +  had  + 3V  +  O

S had 3V O
They had Played  cricket.

‫اگرکسی فقرے کے آخر میں چکاتھا چکی تھی چکے تھے‪   ‬چکی تھیں آجائے ‪             ‬‬

‫وہ روٹی کھاچکاتھا‬

‫ہم کھانا کھاچکے تھے‬

‫موسی روٹی کھاچکا تھا‬

‫ہم کرکٹ کھیل چکے تھے‬

‫تم خط لکھ چکے تھے‬

‫‪STEP - IV                                                                    ‬‬

‫‪Negative Sentences of Past Perfect Tense: ‬‬

‫‪To make a sentence negative, place " not" right after had. Let us formulate it.‬‬

‫‪S +  had  + not +3V  + O‬‬

‫وہ سکول نہیں جا چکا تھا‬

S had not 3V O
‫وہ‬ ‫تھا‬ ‫نہیں‬ ‫جاچکا‬ ‫سکول‬
He had not gone school

He had not gone school.

 ‫وہ گھر کاکام نہیں کرچکے تھے‬

S had not 3V O
‫وہ‬ ‫تھے‬ ‫نہیں‬ ‫گھرکاکام کرچکے‬
They had not done homework.

They had not done homework.

STEP -V

Interrogative Sentence:

To make a sentence interrogative, place "had" right before the subject or at the start of
the sentence. Let us formulate it.

Had  + S  + 3V  + O + ?

‫ جاچکا تھا؟‬ ‫کیا وہ سکول‬                 

Had S 3V O?
‫کیا‬-‫تھا‬ ‫وہ‬ ‫جاچکا‬ ‫سکول‬
Had he gone school?

Had he gone to school?

‫کیاوہ گھر کاکام کرچکے تھے؟‬       

Had S 3V O?
‫کیا‬-‫تھے‬ ‫وہ‬ ‫کرچکے‬ ‫گھرکاکام‬
 Had they done homework?

Had they done homework?

STEP -VI

Interro-Negative Sentences:

To make a sentence interro-negative, add " had" right before the subject of a negative
sentence and put sign of interrogation at the end. Let us formulate it.

S +had  +3V  + O (Simple)

S + had+ not +3V  + O (-ve)

Now Interronegative Sentence will be as:

Had + S+not +3V  + O? 

‫کیا تم دوسرےملک نہیں جاچکا تھے ؟‬       

Had S  not 3V O?
‫کیا‬-‫تھے‬ ‫تم‬ ‫نہیں‬ ‫?دوسرےملک جاچکے‬
Had you not gone  abroad?

Had you not gone abroad?

‫کیا وہ گھر کاکام نہیں کرچکےتھے؟‬
