MORE ABoUT KITE & IT’S HISTORY …. ◦ Kites come in all shapes and sizes. Kites were created in China about 2,800 years ago. Later they spread into other Asian countries, like (India), Japan and Korea. However, the kite only appeared in Europe around the year 1600 ◦ The first kites had sails made of paper or light fabrics such as silk. The poles were made from bamboo sticks, or other strong but flexible woods. The kite line was made from string or twine. ◦ Modern kites are made from synthetic materials, such as ripstop nylon or more exotic fabrics on the sails. They have fiberglass or carbon fiber poles, and use dacron or dyneema for the kite lines. ◦ Today, there are different types of kites. Some are large and are made to look good. Some are smaller and are made for speed, children and competitions. ◦ Also, there are many different types of kites. The most important types of kite are stunt kites and parafoil kites. However, they can come in a variety of sizes, types and designs. ◦ Inflatable kites are made in an inflatable shape, animal or other design. The inflatable kite is one the few modern inventions in the world of kite design. DISADVANTAGES OF FLYING KITE …. ◦ Metal-coated strings have fallen on electricity lines and overhead power cables, and people have been electrocuted while trying to retrieve their kites. These strings have also caused short-circuits and power outages. And kite strings aren't the only reason kite flying can be dangerous to us, birds and animals if Chinese manjha is used to fly kite. Also using plastic kites can be even harmful to nature. WHY SHOULD WE NOT USE CHINESE MANJHA ? ◦ Chinese manja results in thousands of bird death every year. In addition, it is non- biodegradable, that is, it does not get decomposed and sustains in environment for a long time. Even after the festivities are over, lumps of these dangerous threads (manja) remain, effectively entangling and killing innocent birds. WHY IS CHINESE MANJHA BANNED ? ◦ The Chinese manja, which is made of nylon or synthetic thread is treated with glass and metal to make it sharper. ... In the past, there have been several incidents in which both humans and birds have received fatal injuries because of this type of manja. The National Green Tribunal (NGT) in 2016 had banned the product. DOES THE SHAPE MATTER WHILE FLYING KITE ? ◦The four forces of flight (i.e. Lift, Weight, Drag, and Thrust) affect kites in the same way they affect airplanes, and anything else that flies. ... Kites are shaped and angled so that the air moving over the top moves faster than the air moving over the bottom. WHY IS KITE MOSTLY FLEWED ON MAKAR SANKRANTI ? ◦ According to some beliefs, the tradition of kite flying on Makar Sankranti is being carried out so that people are exposed to the sun rays. Sunning is believed to get rid of the skin infections and illnesses associated with winter. WHAT FABRIC SHOULD WE USE TO MAKE KITE AND WHY ? ◦ We should use paper to make kites because they are safe for naturw yet light weight so kites may fly log, not durable but we can consider the above two things by which there is no harm to nature and us and use paper kites. Please don’t use plastic kites as they are not safe for nature yet non – biodegradable. WHAT IS SIGNIFICANCE OF FLYING KITE ? ◦ According to the Hindu calendar, Makar Sankranti is also celebrated as the harvest festival and marks the arrival of spring. The day is synonymous to kite flying too. People across India are seen on their roof tops and sky fills up with colourful kites. Also According to some beliefs, the tradition of kite flying on Makar Sankranti is being carried out so that people are exposed to the sun rays. Also it is believed that the sun of spring helps in reducing the skin infections and illness. ◦So here hope we all understand that how is kite flying having it’s own advantages and disadvantages and I would like to say that please use cotton threads and paper kites as they are safe for nature and us too. Also we should be taking care that we should fly kite at those times when birds are less active also let’s make sure to fly kites really occassionaly but yeah it is important too during Makar Sankranti to get exposed to sunrays to treat all the damages happened to us during long winters.
