My Family Story
As a child from a peculiar family, I have been through many ups and downs in my life,
unexpected happenings, burdens and trauma — to the point that I end up only trusting myself at
this point of time. All I could say is the I will carry my family’s aspect of resilience,
perseverance and faith. Due to everything that my family has undergone, I still love that how we
are together, though there might be toxicity from time to time, at least, we are still together and
fighting to overcome that trials in life and continue to grow as a better family. We persevered
through the darkest times in our lives, that I’m amazed that my mom and dad are still together
and showing a good example — though they might not be perfect, I still love them both till the
end. Lastly, faith, my mom is a religious person who always tells me to trust God and pray every
time I encounter a downside in life. Every time we encounter sadness or things we can’t carry by
our own shoulders, we can always reach to God for help.
The practices, beliefs and values that I will cherish the most from both of my parents are
independence, loyalty and hardworking mentality. My dad is that type of dad that offers tough
love — he doesn’t really say I love you to me but he only shows it through his actions. Thus, it
thought me how to be independent to myself — he always say “in the end you will only have
yourself” , thus, I’ve been thought to always work for myself; without him, I would become so
needy in the actions I decide, he always say to make decisions that can benefit you and the peers
you cherish. Next would be hard work and loyalty. My mom thought me to always work hard
and do 100% or more of what you are capable of — always try to bring something better than
your ace and efficiently execute task, in-order to give back the best for the community. Lastly,
loyalty, my mom always tells me to find people who will be there for you when you have
nothing. True friends will only show up when you got nothing left. Thus, those are the things I’ll
carry from my upbringing.
