ABADIA, KELIA HAZEL D.

(1ST YEAR BSBA FM) PURPOSIVE COMMUNICATION

SEPT. 22, 2020

ACTIVITY

Recall instances in your life as a student where you "tuned out" information that was
being shared with you for one reason or another

o What was being shared to you?

I have experienced tuning out information before and it was about the concepts in
Chemistry in my Earth Science class.

o How was it being shared to you?

The teacher discussed it in front of the class. He explained the concepts and provided
examples about the topic.

o What aspects made you "tune out" the information? Was it because of the information itself?
The person who was sharing it to you? Was it because of the manner it was presented to you?
Was it simply because you were not interested or were not feeling up to it at the time?

First, the teacher was very boring and he often spoke in a monotonous voice which kept
me feeling sleepy during his class. Second, I had a hard time understanding the concepts
and computations of formulas in Chemistry so that was also a reason why I was not
interested in the topic and I did not pay enough attention during the class.

o What would have made you "tune in" and give the information your attention and focus?

Maybe if Chemistry was interesting enough for me, I would have paid attention even if
the lessons were challenging to master. Also, if the teacher's countenance was more
lively, I would have been more motivated to listen.

ANALYSIS

o What makes communication effective?

I think that communicating is most effective when both the communicator and the
receiver are in the same page about a certain topic, and there are no language barriers
between them.

o How can we, as communicators guarantee that the information we communicate is not
only understood but also perceived positively by the receiver?

We have to be careful both in choosing our words and using nonverbal languages when
we communicate something so that the receiver will not misunderstand us.
