ELL Mini Lesson Reflection

● As a teacher, what was your biggest challenge while planning the lesson?
○ Figuring out ways to make this lesson easy to follow and understand for
the class.
● As a teacher, what challenges did you face when trying to teach your
lesson/content to the class?
○ Since we could not speak in English, we had to come up with creative
ways to engage the students and make sure they were comprehending
the lesson.
● What did you do to “overcome” these challenges?
○ We used pictures and hand motions for each slide of our lesson so it was
easier for the class to comprehend what we were attempting to teach
them.
● As a teacher, how did this activity simulate trying to instruct one or more ELL
students in your classroom? How did you use "language" in your instruction?
○ We used pictures and hand movements to help instruct the ELL students.
This is useful because it helps the students comprehend what is going on.
● As a student, what did you rely on most to comprehend what was being taught?
○ I relied on the pictures presented on the board and the hand motions
given by the teachers to understand what was being taught to me.
● As part of the "class", how can you relate this activity to the experience of ELL
students in an English speaking classroom?
○ During some lessons I was confused on what the lesson was about if the
teachers did not use many pictures or hand motions to help assist their
lesson.
● Overall, what do you think was the purpose of this activity?
○ I think the purpose of this activity was to show the difficulties of both
teaching students a different language and learning a different language.
This activity also showed the importance of using other methods to assist
your teaching, pictures and hand motions.
