Course Description:

16 lectures, 16 weeks, on Tuesday, 10:00 – 12:25.

Each lecture: 3 sessions, 45 mins each.

Week 1: Electric charge and electric Field

Week 2: Gauss’s law and its application

Week 3: Electric potential

Week 4: Magnetic Field and Magnetic Forces

Week 5: Electromagnetic induction: Faraday’s Law and Lenz’s Law

Week 6: Introduction of electromagnetic waves and Maxwell equations

Week 7: Exercise class on EM Waves

Week 8: Introduction of light interference and phase coherence.

Week 9: Introduction of light diffraction, single-slit diffraction, and multiple-slit diffraction

Week 10: Introduction of geometric optics, reflection and refraction laws in the plane and spherical mirrors,
light polarization

Week 11: Exercise class on optics

Week 12: A preliminary study of quantum theory: Bohr’s theory of hydrogen atom

Week 13: Introduction of quantum mechanics, wave functions and one-dimensional Schrodinger equation.

Week 14: Application of Schrodinger equation to potential wells, potential barriers and harmonic oscillator.

Week 15: Exercise class on quantum mechanics

Week 16: Review for final exam.
