INTRODUCTION Matcon Testing Laboratory, a Dubai registered material testing firm has been called by The Second Construction Co., to Conduct the temperature monitoring of concrete by thermocouple for "Noor Energy 1-700 MW CSP PROJECT -Al Qudra”. This campaign Is to include the field works, and the preparation of factual report. This document presents details of the methods to be used for the performance of the contracted services in accordance with relevant standards in use in the UAE, and general practice in force. 2, PURPOSE This method statement is intended to provide a brief introduction about the temperature monitoring, its advantages and limitations of the test and to provide a detailed step in estimating the concrete temperature. 3, SCOPE OF WORK The scope of this test method is to monitor concrete temperatures generated by exothermic heat of hydration reaction of the cement during casting and the maturity period of concrete in the structure. The mockup concrete block of 3.0m*3.0m*3.0m will be instrumented with total fifteen (15) no. thermocouples in concrete and one (1) no thermocouple for ambient temperature. Continuous temperature monitoring to be carried out for 72 hrs at 2hrs of interval once the pouring of the concrete started. 4, TEST PERSONNEL The site activities shall be conducted by technically experienced laboratory technician and assistant technician under the supervision of the sr. personnel. 5. EQUIPMETN and ACCESSORIES Following equipment will be used to monitor the temperature: a. Temperature data loggers: Data taker DT85, it has 24 no. ports to store the temperature data oe b. Thermocouple probes ~ K type probe to measure the temperature c. PVC pipes to cover the probes in concrete (e d. Data logger software to download the temperature data. \ _ - Qe SS Date] Description Client Gurraeenee | Povaed | Gheied [Aeorred | tem | Pee | ‘weed MOTPRGEOAS- 1 tajoazas | stteren | SECOND CONSTRUCTION o18-03 ve oy re 1 aoe | nig MATCON TESTING LABORATORY ERE Company 6. TEST LOCATIONS 1. For the concrete mockup set of size 3.0m*3.0m*3.0m will be instrumented with thermocouple probes (K-type) at 5 locations. Each location will have 3 probes at top, bottom and middle of the section. 2. One probe will measure the ambient temperature. All the thermocouple probes will be connected to data logger. 3. The location for the testing shall be identified by the consultant / contractor and agreed by all the interested parties in the project prior to the start of the work. As indicated in Figure No.1 , total 5 thermocouples will be installed in the mockup concrete block before pouring the concrete. The Thermocouples will be installed at three different levels (Top, Middle and Bottom) to monitor concrete temperatures generated by exothermic heat of hydration reaction of the cement during casting and the maturity period of concrete in the casted structure. 2. Apvc pipe will be used to case the thermocouple wires connecting to data logger to avoid any disturbance. One probe will be installed to data logger to measure the ambient temperature. Data logger will be connected to batteries for interrupted power. 4, Prior to pouring of concrete a check will be carried out for proper function of the entire setup. 5. When the recording is over, the thermocouple will be removed from the data logger and the thermocouple wires left in the concrete since it cannot be removed after the concrete is cured. 6. The data logger will be connected to a computer and the data will be downloaded. 7. In order to check quality of the data, everyday once data will be down loaded. 8. REPORTING Test report identifying the location and areas of the test conducted and the results obtained along with all the mandatory information as per the test method will be presented in the report. Graphs of temperature versus time will be presented in the report and data sheets of every 2 hrs interval . ‘The results submitted will be used by the consultant or other interested parties as a guideline for planning necessary actions if any required. 9, EMERGENCY PROCEDURES INCLUDING FIRST AID & EMERGENCY CONTACTS For emergencies which involve or may involve danger to life, environment or property, following procedures will be followed: 1. The person who first discovers the incident will immediately inform the HSE Officer / Site Supervisor and Manager. The person will state clearly as a minimum the following: a) Location of incident b) Nature of incident ) Any special precautions (to be foreseen).
