Richard Charles Nicholas Branson is a British businessman, founder of
the Virgin group and author of several books. Their investments range
from music to aviation, clothing, biofuels, and even aerospace travel.
In 2014, according to Forbes magazine, Branson is the 245th richest man
in the world, with a fortune valued at $ 4.9 billion.
It was difficult for him to launch the first edition because he could not
sell the pages for advertising. In 1970 he founded a mail order record
company, and in 1972 he opened a network of Virgin Records record
stores that would become Virgin Megastores. The Virgin brand grew a lot
during the 1980s, while he founded Virgin Atlantic and expanded the
Virgin Records music label.
He has tried to break many records, including going around the world in
a balloon, but has failed twice.
In 1999, Richard Branson became Sir, when he was made a Knight by
Queen Elizabeth II.
In 2009, he signed a contract with Ross Brawn, owner of the Formula 1
brawn GP team, becoming their main sponsor. In the 2010 World Cup
season, Branson launched his own team, Virgin Racing, which is still
active in the 2011 season and features drivers Timo Glock and Jérôme
d'Ambrosio.
