OMN 1. LCT OPERATION
1 LCT OPERATION
LCT is designed with the user in mind. All LCT products have a uniform
“look and feel.” Color graphics provide detailed visual information, and
the software features point-and-click mouse control.
Upon logon to an NE, LCT automatically queries the NE for an inventory
of its resources and then translates this inventory into a shelf layout
display on the computer screen. This display simulates the view of the
SRT 1F shelf. The screen also displays alarm and status information.
The on-line help feature provides additional information about
commands and procedures.

1.1.5 Provisioning
The LCT command logs provide a record of all commands sent from
LCT and the responses from the NE. Each message is tagged with the
date and time. This information can be printed and filed, simplifying
record keeping, troubleshooting, and network administration.
TL1 commands and responses are used for all communication between
an NE and a local terminal. LCT translates selections made by a user
with the point-and-click interface into the equivalent TL1 command and
sends the command to the NE.
LCT then translates the response message from the NE into a graphical
representation on the PC screen.
This manual employs visual cues, standard text formats, and some
special terminology to help the reader locate and interpret information
easily, as explained here.

Performance of LCT:
Auto Report Handling
LCT handles all auto messages including both REPT-EVT and REPT-
ALM from NE. LCT will display up to 128K byte characters.
When LCT receives more than 1,024 such reports, LCT discards the
oldest reports first. Then LCT begins handling new reports.
Large response handling
The following commands are most likely to generate a large
(unhandleable) response from the NE:
a. Status/Control -> Shelf Condition -> Display Log Files
b. Status/Control -> Shelf Condition -> Display All Log Files

Text Boxes
A text box is a field where users can type information. Text boxes
appear in many dialog boxes.
Check Boxes
Check boxes appear in dialog boxes to enable you to select individual or
multiple items. When a check box is toggled on, the box contains a √,
and the option associated with the box is selected. When the check box
is toggled off, the box is empty. You can select as many check boxes in
a dialog box as needed.
Option Buttons
Option buttons in a dialog box allow you to choose among a list of
mutually exclusive options. Only one option can be selected from the list
at a time. When an option is selected, a black dot appears in the circle
next to the option. Clicking a previously selected choice in a dialog box
deselects the option and removes the black dot from the circle.
Command Buttons
Command buttons (such as OK, Retrieve, and Cancel) appear in dialog
boxes. Some command buttons, such as Retrieve and Cancel, initiate
an action as soon as they are chosen. The OK button initiates a
command. Other command buttons ask you to select additional options.
The Cancel (or Close) command button closes the dialog box.

Manual Logoff
Any user can log off an NE at any time. You can use the logoff
procedure to exit from one or multiple NE sessions. You do not need to
log off one NE session to log on to another NE.
The craft and modem ports on the NE share a common universal
asynchronous receiver/transmitter (UART). LCT automatically sends a
CTRL-C character as its final transmission. The communication port (the
RS-232 serial port) is then released and ready for the next user.
Follow these steps to manually log off an NE:
1. Choose Session -> Logoff. The Log Off confirmation message
shown in Figure 1.51 appears.
1.3.11.2 Exit
The Exit command allows you to Exit from the LCT application. Follow
these steps:
1. Choose File -> Exit. The Exit confirmation message shown in Figure

LCT’s TL1 command interface makes entering the correct syntax and
parameters for commands easy. All you need to do to enter a command

commands one at a time, or you can send a batch file containing
multiple TL1 commands.

OMN 1. LCT OPERATION
All of the TL1 commands are available through LCT. After accessing a
TL1 command, you can edit it to provide additional parameters. Follow
these steps to send TL1 commands to the NE:
1. Click Param Fill... to view the command in the Command Line
Editing window.
Make any changes or corrections to the command.
2. Click Send Command when you are ready to send the command.
You can use a batch file to send an entire set of TL1 commands all at
once. The batch file automatically sends one command after the other,
in sequence. As soon as the NE finishes processing one command, the
next one is sent. Since the commands are saved in a file, they can be
used over and over to perform the same tasks. The batch files can also
be copied to multiple systems for use by other people.
Batch files are sent through LCT’s TL1 command interface after logon to
an NE. You can create batch files at any time, whether or not you are
logged on.
Note: For information on editing batch files, refer to par.1.3.5 TL1 Batch
Commands.
Follow these steps to send a batch file:
1. Click Open. Double-click the desired file name in the TL1 Batch
Commands window.
2. Click Send. The list of commands displayed in the TL1 Batch
Commands window is executed in sequence.
3. Click Cancel to return to the main LCT display.

Note: The value that is set by Edit Action becomes valid after the
Initialize Action is executed. Also, the value indicated by Retrieve
Action shows current effective value.
Follow these steps:
1. Choose Provisioning -> TCP/IP Interface -> IP Address. The IP
Address dialog box shown in Figure 1.127 appears.
IP Address parameters
Parameters Description
IP Address The IP Address parameter allows you to specify the IP
address.
The format for IP Address is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx = 0 to 255).
Subnet Mask The Subnet Mask parameter allows you to specify the Subnet
Mask for the Subnet where this GNE belongs to.
The format for Mask is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx = 0 to 255).
Default The Default Gateway parameter allows you to specify the IP
Gateway Address for the static IP gateway through which the GNE
communicate with other IP hosts.
The format for Default Gateway is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx = 0 to
255).
PORT The PORT parameter allows you to set the TCP port numbers
which GNE listens to.
The range value for this parameter is from 1024 to 65535.

The IP Access command allows you to define the IP Hosts which can
communicate with the GNE. There are usually more than one host: the
SDH Network Element Managers and the IP Network Manager.
Note: The value that is set by Edit Action becomes valid after the
Initialize Action is executed. Also, the value indicated by Retrieve
Action shows current effective value.
Follow these steps:
1. Choose Provisioning -> TCP/IP Interface -> IP Access. The IP
Access dialog box shown in Figure 1.128 appears.
IP Address parameters
Parameters Description
IP Host The IP Host parameter allows you to set the IP address for the specified
IP Address.
The format for Default Gateway is xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (xxx = 0 to 255). When
0.0.0.0 is given and AID=ALL, any IP nodes can communicate with this
GNE. If only provisioning local IP address to IP Host, no NMS can talk to
the GNE. However, if local IP address is one of provisioned IP Hosts, it
does not affect anything. When parameter is "0.0.0.0", the IP Host for the
specified AID is deleted.
