SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE


The simple present tense is use to talk about general truths and
things that happen all the time.

Affirmative Form

1. For he, she, it and singular subject add –s or –es after the verb.

Examples:

a. He plays basketball with his dad every Saturday.


b. She eats fruits and vegetables every day.
c. The cheetah runs so fast.

2. For we, they, you and plural subject do not add –s or –es after the
verb.

Examples:

a. We answer our quiz with all honesty.


b. They dance gracefully in the competition.
c. Phoebe and Sydney play hide and seek.

Negative Form

3. For negative sentences, use does not or do not.

 Use does not for he, she, it and singular subject.

Examples:

a. He does not play basketball with his friends.


b. She does not eat fruits and vegetables every day.
c. Kenjie does not eat pizza.
 Use do not for they, we, you and plural subject.

Examples:

a. They do not watch television at home.


b. We do not play inside the classroom.
c. Kevira and Christine do not listen to music.

Interrogative Form

4. To ask question, use do or does + subject + verb.


 Use does for he, she, it and singular subject.

Examples:

a. Does he take vitamins every day?


Possible answers: Yes, he does.
No, he doesn’t.
b. Does Marchen behave well in class?
Possible answers: Yes, he does.
No, he doesn’t.

 Use do for we, they, you, I and plural subject.

Examples:

a. Do they take vitamins every day?


Possible answers: Yes, they do.
No, they don’t.
b. Do you behave well in class?
Possible answers: Yes, I do.
No, I don’t.
