A. What is your reaction on the story of Horacio de la Costa and the Bishops?

I have watched several videos on the internet about the story but I still find it confusing because mostly
are just summaries. Additionally, I found article about it and I was able to understand even just a little. There
was statement affirmed by De la Costa that says “Nation building is not necessarily incompatible with religious
beliefs.”, and I agree with that because religion and nation should be a separate issue and a nation can still
progressive if there are different religions.

B. By reading and analyzing R.A. 1425, can a student be exempted from taking the Rizal course?

No, because according to the section 1 of the mandated law, it should be included in the curricula of all
schools, universities, and colleges. All students are required in taking the course.

C. Why do we have to take Rizal Course?

It is important that we take the course because Rizal’s work is full of learnings regarding the past and
the injustices during the Spanish era. We shouldn’t take the course only because it is mandated by the law but
also we want to learn and know how his life in the past. It also helps us know how we gained our
independence, and it instills patriotism and nationalism.
