Convective mass transfer is the most common form of transport, but also a complex form of transport in connection with which
there are great difficulties in determining the mass-transfer coefficients β . When considering the flow as a whole, it is necessary
to distinguish it in two main directions: longitudinal, coinciding with the flow direction and transverse, and perpendicular to the
flow direction, the transfer components. The main convective transfer is carried out in the longitudinal direction, and the
diffusion transfer takes place in the transverse direction. However, in the processes of mass transfer, matter passes from phase to
phase in a direction transverse to the motion of the phases, that is, cross-section diffusion transport is important. In this case,
turbulent mixing equalizes the concentrations along the cross section, and they speak of a much larger quantity than the
molecular diffusion of turbulent diffusion. But the particle cannot reach the wall, since a thin laminar boundary layer is formed
near it, where the transfer is carried out predominantly by the molecular diffusion. Therefore, within the boundaries of a viscous
boundary layer, the equation includes the molecular diffusion coefficient D. The mass-transfer coefficient in complex processes
of film flow, drops, bubbles, jets, etc. with allowance for the Marangoni effect is determined using series of simplified theoretical
models of matter transfer.
