WINKLER METHOD

Water Sample
DO
Completely fill 300 mL BOD bottle
Add 2.o mL MnSO4 Dissolved Oxygen
Invert bottle several times until (in mg/L)
completely dissolved
Add 2.0 mL Alkaline Sodium
Record all 0.025 N
Iodine Solution
Sodium Thiosulfate
Swirl bottle for 20 seconds
Compute for DO
Settle until precipitate forms at
the bottom of the bottle

Water Sample
with Brown
Precipitate
Colorless
Add 2.0 mL conc. H2SO4 Solution
Invert bottle several times until
completely dissolved

Add 0.025 N Sodium

Brownish-Yellow Thiosulfate while stirring
Solution

Add until solution is colorless

Collect 200mL of Solution

Transfer to Erlenmeyer Flask
Add 0.025 N Sodium Thiosulfate
while stirring
Add until solution is pale straw
Blue Solution
yellow
Add 2.0 mL fresh starch solution
DISSOLVED OXYGEN - PROBE

DO Probe

Connect the other end of probe

to DO meter

Turn on the DO meter

Select the appropriate unit (mg/L)

Submerge the probe halfway into

water sample

Press the "read" button in DO

meter

Wait for a few seconds to stabilize

Record the measured DO

Repeat the record to ensure

precision

Remove the prove from water

sample
