Appreciating Installation Art by Mideo Cruz

1. Based on the form, make a description of one of the installation arts

(see attached file).
- The image in the file depicts an installation art using religious
iconography like the holy cross, rosary and the Jesus with various
controversial items attached like condoms, male sex organ, as
well as necklaces, pressure gauge and other items which seemed
to be random.

2. For you, what is the meaning being conveyed by that work (work you
described)?
- The artwork is the depiction of human idolism and a strike to
societal norms, the relevance of the artwork is hardly appreciated
due to the way it is expressed and its strike on religious sector.
The religious icons which could mean power considering how
people treat those items with all the respect and worship it, with
the attachments of different other non-religious items like male
sex organ which depicts patriarchy which means men has the
power over our society.

3. How do you find his work? Are they good or bad arts?
- Art is an expression of one’s imagination, creativity and
perspective, in the artists point of view, there are no such things
as bad arts as we all have our own unique ways on making
artworks, but despite all of that, arts which seem to be scandalous
for me is an exception, “Poleteismo” for me is an outright
blasphemous attempt to attack Christianity, it is not a direct call as
a limitation to an art because of its strike on religious aspect but
somehow because of how religious affiliation became the basis of
our morality and ethics, it indeed became appalling and
abominable to the eyes of the masses.
