NOTES
I The reference point used in the calculations in this booklet is :
Longitudinal Midship
Transverse Centreline
Vertical Base Line
2 In un-symmetrical flooding cases, starboard side tanks have been considered as
damaged. Port side damage would be similar.
3 Deck Edge + 0.76 M on starboard side has been considered as points through which
progressive flooding can take place.

DAMAGED STABILITY INVESTIGATIONS
I Conditions o f Loading
The calculations for stability o f the ship in damaged condition has been done assuming the ship in
initial condilions hutore dani;~gu.I'hc initial condition is :
- a , Loaded Dparture Condition with all cargo tanks loaded uniformly.
(Corresponding to Loading Condition 7 o f Trim & Stability Booklet)
Reg. 25 ( I ) (a) :
Tankers exceedins 225 M in Length - Anywhere in the ship's length.
(b) 111tlie final stages o f tlooding, angle of heel due to unsymmetrical flooding shall not exceed 25 Deg.
Provided that this angle may be increased to 30 Deg if no deck edge immersion occurs.
Space Permeability

( * w1iicheve1-results in tlic iiiorc sevcrc requirements)
Ships over 150 In .in length, designed to have empty compartments when loaded to her summer load
1, ater line. sliall be able to withstand the flooding of any one o f these empty compartments at an
assumed permeability o f 0.95, and remain afloat in a condition o f equilibrium considered to be
satisfactory by tlie Administartion
Requirements :
(a) Final waterline after flooding is below lower edge o f any opening through which
I
~progressivctlooditig can take place.
(b) maximum angleof lieel due to asymmetrical flooding is of the order o f 15 Deg.
(c) Metacentric height in flooded condition is positive.
