Toba Tek Sing

In 1947, India become independent and also was divided into India and Pakistan. Both nations have
got their independence. What the actual reason behind this division? What was the agenda for
forming two nation? Till today there are no specific answer to this question. One of the main reasons
were religious faith. Pakistan was mainly formed based on religious faith one might. There was also
political difference between the leader of the nation which led to the partition.

The idea of Pakistan becoming an Islamic country and Inda a Hindu country cannot be achieved in its
complete form. India has become a secular country. While in Pakistan there are minority groups of
Hindus and Sikhs. A nation cannot ne formed solely on religious grounds. When this news of
partition reached common people, it created commotion, it devastated people. Should all the
Hindus and Sikh people move to India if so, what will happen to their land or home which would be
in Pakistan after the division. There were Muslims in India who wanted stay back and did not migrate
to Pakistan.

People are sentimental of their land; it did not matter to them whether they lived in Pakistan or
India. As we know the story of the Bishan ding who wanted to go to his place Toba Tek Singh which
become a part of Pakistan after partition. Because he was a Hindu and all his family were moved to
India, he was also being to sent to India but it did not matter to him whether he was being sent to
India or was retained in Pakistan, for him Toba Tek Singh once said that “A nation is not a nap on a
piece of paper. It lies in the hart of people, Likewise in Bishan’s heart Toba Tak Singh was his nation
and not India or Pakistan.

Gradually our nation has seen development in recent years. As Jawaharlal Nehru said “India is a
melting pot, we stand as a nation irrespective of cast, creed, race, language”. What brings us all
together in our love towards the nation.
