 Situation which a difficult choice has to be made

between two courses of actions, either of which


transgress a moral principle.
Levels of Moral Dilemmas
 Individual
- Judgement is based on self-chosen principles, and moral reasoning
is based on individual rights and justice.
- Ex. Beating the red lights due to emergency.
 Organizational
- A puzzle posed by dual necessities of social organization and
member’s self-interest. It exists between personal interest and
organizational welfare.
- Ex. Discrimination in the workplace
 Systemic or structural
- Moral predicaments in public administration, sectors, groups and
institutions that may be affected by the decisions.
- Ex. Corruption in the government
Foundations of Morality
 Freedom
- power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants
without hindrance or restraint.
- responsibility for one’s act and to another.
- use freedom in a way that won’t harm anyone, not
to abuse it and give limitations to it.
- types: alive, speech, expression, press, choose,
talk, religion, suffrage
Minimum Requirement for Morality

 Reason
- the fundamental prospect we rely on to not
become bias by feelings and emotion.
 Impartiality
- the principle that decisions ought to be based on
objective criteria, rather than on the basis of bias,
prejudice or preferring to benefit one person over
another for improper reasons.
