Editorial

Mahratta Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture had organised the 'SME Founders'
Conclave' on 6th February 2019. A galaxy of eminent speakers like Mr R. Gopalkrishnan, Former Director-
Tata Sons, Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar, Chairman and Manging Director- Kirloskar Brothers and several others
addressed the audience.

There were perspectives from large corporates, academic institution (IIMA) as well as SMEs with
sustained high growth over last few years. The central theme that emerged out of the deliberations was
“How to Create Long Lasting Enterprises while continually improving the products and services on offer”.

While this issue goes to print, we had the Presentation of the Interim Union Budget for 2019-20 by
Hon'ble Shri Piyush Goyal, Finance Minister of India. There are several aspects to the budget relating to tax
proposals, agriculture sector, industry and others. In this issue, we have summarised reactions of the MCCIA
Board and select experts.

We are presenting this issue with a Special Focus on Defence as we organize very important conclave on

Defence Indigenization on 5 February 2019. In this Issue we are presenting select DRDO establishments
and Private Sector companies in Pune region who have done pioneering efforts in Defence sector. We are
confident that their success and plans ahead will encourage many of MCCIA members to explore prospects
in Defence sector.
