Scottsdale Police Department Strategic Plan

This paper presents an assessment of the strategic plan from the Scottsdale Police

Department. Crime statistics in the area have an effect on the strategy of the police department.

The focus in this case is on 2017 UCR Crime Clock. The Crime Clock is a representation of the

annual ratio of crime to fixed time intervals. The crime statistics directly shape the priorities of

the police department. UCR Crime Clock show certain crimes and their regularity. Scottsdale

Police Department has a strategic plan that is regularly updated to keep up with changes, for

example, changes in relation to crime rates and changes such as technology.

The 2017 UCR Crime Clock shows that in 2017 in the jurisdiction, there was one murder

every 73 days in 2017 and every 91 days in 2016. The UCR Crime Clock is essential in

understanding intervals and regularity of different kinds of crimes. The statistics show that there

was one sexual assault in every 22 hours in 2017.

There are also relevant statistics showing the rats of robbery, property crime, aggravated

assault, burglary, motor vehicle theft and arson. The police department has over time used crime

statistics in the area to shape its strategy to deal with crime (Scottsdale Police Department,

2018). A clear strategy is the inclusion of technology and social media to improve operations in

the Scottsdale Police Department. The police department has a strategic plan that shows the

commitment of the department to deal with problems facing the community the department

serves. The strategic plan includes a focus on improving connection with the community,

strengthening the workforce in the department. Improving effectiveness of the police department

and serving and protecting the public to ensure their safety.

police departments. This includes both advantages and disadvantages. The police department in

this case has made effort to improve relationships with the community. Community policing is

an important part of the strategic plan of the Scottsdale Police Department. Reviewing the

strategic plan of the police department shows that there are both short term and long term plans.

The department is prepared for both man-mad and natural disasters that may threaten the

safety of people in the area. Crime statistics shape the strategic plan because the plan factors in

different risks based on statistics. The police department has both strengths and weaknesses in

its operations. From the strategic plan, it is clear to see that transparency is an important part of

the police department. Scottsdale Police Department’s strategic plan has a breakdown of the

operations of the police department.

The department has clear goals and keeps updating them depending on changes, for

example, changes in crime rats. UCR statistics are therefore crucial in shaping the priorities of

the police department. A strategic plan is a blueprint that shapes the plans of an organization.

department more organized in dealing with problems in its jurisdiction and also in enhancing the

capabilities of the police department. The Scottsdale Police Department strategic plan is a plan

plans for improvement.

The strategic plan of the police department is focused on reducing crime rates in the

jurisdiction and also making the area safer for members of the community. Improvement of

important role in the development of the plan. There are measures put in place to ensure the

success of the strategic plan. This is a strategic plan that is unique to the area. There are

however changes in crime trends in the area that make it necessary to update the strategic plan of

the police department. This means that the plan also has challenges because of changes in the

area.

The police department has a comprehensive strategic plan that also includes issues related

clear strength of this strategic plan is that there is clear delegating of responsibility, for example,

showing the people responsible for different strategic directions. The Scottsdale Police

Department’s strategic plan is a comprehensive strategic plan with both a short term and long

term focus. Despite being an effective strategic plan, there are areas that could be improved in

the plan. The plan is influenced by crime statistics and this makes it effective in addressing
