Question 1 -third of the number of employees of a company are males and the rest are

females. If 3/8th of the male employees and 2/5th of the female employees are temporary
employees and the total number of permanent employees is 740, then 7/15th of the total
number of employees exceeds the number of temporary female employees by

Let the total No. of employees be

According to question :

The number of males

The number of females

The number of males who are temporary employees =

The number of females who are temporary employee

∴ The total number of temporary employees

Hence, the total no. of permanent employees

It is given that-

Hence,

Required,

the total number of employees exceeds

the number of temporary female employees by:
Question The income of A is 60% less than that of B, and the expenditure of A is equal to 60%
of B’s expenditure. If A’s income is equal to 70% of B’s expenditure, then what is the ratio of the
savings of A and B?

Given the income of A is 60% less than that of B.

⇒ 60% = 3/5
Let income of B = 5x
Income of A = 5x - 3x = 2x

Expenditure of A is equal to 60% of B’s expenditure.

Now, 60% = 3/5

Let Expenditure of B = 5y
Expenditure of A = 3y

A’s income is equal to 70% of B’s expenditure:

⇒ 2x = (7/10) × 5y
⇒ x/y = 7/4

Saving of B = 5x - 5y = 5(x - y)
Saving of A = 2x - 3y
Ratio of saving of B to A =

= 15y/2y = 15/2

So, A:B = 2:15.

The average marks of sam decreased by 1, when he replaced the subject in which he has
scored 40 by the other two subjects in which he scored 23 and 25 marks respectively. Later he
has also included 57 marks of computer science, then the average marks increased by 2. How
many subjects were there initially?

Let the number of subjects be "n" and average marks be "x", then the total marks = nx
Again (n + 1)(x − 1) = (nx − 40 + 23 + 15) = total marks

⇒ (x − n) = 9

Again, (n + 2)(x + 1) = (nx − 40) + (23 + 25 + 57)     (Since, x - 1 + 2 = x + 1)

⇒ nx + 2x + n + 2 = nx + 65

⇒ 2x + n = 63

Now on solving the equations, we get n = 15 and x = 24.
