former name Church and Convent of Saint Agustine.

2.)Location: The Basílica Menor del Santo Niño de Cebu Basilica Complex is located in city block
bordered by Osmeña Boulevard, D. Jakosalem St, P. Burgos St. and the Plaza Sugbo where the
Magellan's Cross is located. The main entrance is on Osmeña Boulevard. Two blocks north of the basilica
is the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cebu.

3.)Mission, Vission & Goals:


VISION
A community where children enjoy and experience peace, harmony and equal opportunity to a life
accorded with dignity regardless of sex, race and religion.

MISSION
With the Church’s preferential option for the poor the Foundation commits to assist in the Development
of poor children in the different dimensions of life, help them appreciate its value, and teach them live a
productive and happy Christian life in the family and community.

GOAL
1. To provide poor but deserving children with the opportunity to avail Education.
2. To create an office to facilitate Christian formation to the poor families, to spouse advocacy
of children’s welfare and to initiate and facilitate acquisition of Resource of livelihood.

4.)Primary sourses and/ secondary sources kept or displayed in the archive/museum:

Primary sources:
 Flemish statuette of the Christ child (Santo Niño
 Old church documents dating back to the 17th century
 antique church furniture
 antique church things (i.e. Chalice, Altar Table, Thurible, etc.)
 antique vestments of the priests
 relics and statues of the different saints

Secondary sources: The church is no stranger to hardship: established in 1565 (the first church in the
Philippines), three earlier structures were destroyed by fire, before the existing baroque structure was
built in 1737. Its facade and belfry were badly damaged by the 2013 earthquake but have been restored.

5.) Present progress/projcet:

 The Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu on Thursday clarified that the image of Sto. Nino is
not part of the declaration as a National Cultural Treasures (NCT) by the National Museum of the
Philippines.
 There are academic and/or historical conferences and a possible publication on topics related to
Sto. Niño, ECCE HOMO, Magellan and Pigafetta.
